Once you get used to thinking of certain actresses in a certain way, seeing them in a different context can be a little disconcerting. I knew Mirrielle Enos from Big Love, where she played an uptight Mormon housewife. The switch the “The Killing,” however, wasn’t a big stretch: She’s still a glum, unhappy woman, only now she’s surrounded by buckets of rain. But then, finding out she was married to Alan Ruck completely changed my perception of the actress, and now that she’s done a tease-y photo-shoot for Esquire, I have to rethink my image of her again.
However, it’s not going to convince me to enjoy “The Killing,” although I’m still hanging on for dear life because 1) I so very badly want it to get better, and 2) I kind of get a perverse pleasure out of the way it makes me hate it so much.
Here’s my initial frame of reference, from Big Love.
Then from “The Killing.”
Then as wife.
And now as … sexpot? My brain has whiplash.
