Channing Tatum got big at the perfect time in my life—puberty—and even I was not immune to his muscular charms. But, alas, nowadays he’s engaged to Zoë Kravitz, and they’re promoting their new movie Blink Twice, which she directed and he stars in. At the premiere last week, Kravitz thanked her beau for “Trusting me to female direct you,” whatever that means.

“It’s really very cool to get to make a movie, but when you get to do it with the love of your life, it’s even cooler,” she added.
Well, it turns out the movie is the very thing that led them to be the loves of each other’s lives. “It was pretty crazy. I didn’t really know Zoë before she sent me the script,” Tatum said. Then, Riley Keough texted him saying, “Hey, my friend Zoë wants to send you a script,” to which Tatum replied, “Great, I love Zoë as an actress, I’d love to act with her.”
So, Keough came in with the assist and Kravitz sent along the script, and here’s where it gets good. The original title of the film in those early stages was Pussy Island.
“I was like, ‘OK, Zoë Kravitz is sending me something called Pussy Island, I think I should probably read this.’ And that was, like, six years ago, and it’s been such a journey,” he said. Do you understand the astronomical level of rizz that is, essentially, sliding into Channing Tatum’s DMs with a script called Pussy Island? I am taking notes!
“The script from the first time I read it has changed so much,” Tatum explained. Sure, title and all. “She’s truly going on a beautiful first-time director’s journey.”
“She’s just an obsessive person, in the best possible way. And 360, she’s not just worried about the way it looks or the way the actors are playing their parts—it’s down from the floor to the ceiling, she just doesn’t ever stop. That I think I was more in awe of than anything. I knew she was creative, I knew she had taste, I knew she knew how to act and how to direct actors, and she obviously has visual aesthetic.”
So, what I’m hearing is that the muscle-y fantasy man of my youth loves intense, bossy women. I had a chance!
