We mentioned in last night’s Pajiba Love before video had surfaced that at the 20th Anniversary screening of Wag the Dog, Dustin Hoffman and John Oliver got into it over the sexual harassment allegations leveled against Hoffman. Here’s video of that exchange from The Washington Post.
Hoffman does not do himself any favors in this, and Oliver calls him on it in real-time, as they sort of deconstruct Hoffman’s apology. At one point, Hoffman says to Oliver, “But you weren’t there,” and Oliver shoots back, “I’m glad I wasn’t!” But Hoffman falls back on those old apology standbys: I apologize if, and “It happened 40 years ago.” Oliver doesn’t cotton to those excuses at all. He does give Hoffman several opportunities to make his apology right, but Hoffman just digs himself in deeper.
Wow. I’d love to see Oliver take on Louis CK or Bill O’Reilly.
