If there’s anyone who would know for sure whether there was an actual romance between Glen Powell and Sydney Sweeney during the flirty promotional tour for Anyone But You, it would be Gigi Paris, the woman Powell had been dating for three years before breaking up with her during the Anyone But You tour. Alas, she doesn’t appear to know either, as she reflected on her breakup with Powell on the Too Much podcast.
On the podcast, she said the relationship started to deteriorate about six months before the eventual breakup because she took issue with the way he was portraying his personal life on social media, and he “didn’t take that well.” Once the rumors between Powell and Sweeney began to swirl, Powell told Paris the flirting was basically “something I have to do for my job.”
“I had two options,” she continued. “I could either pretend like I was going along with everything and have everyone wonder, like, ‘Are they hooking up? Are they not hooking up? Is she OK with this? What the f**k?’ Or stand up for myself and walk away. And that’s what I decided to do.”
“I was shattered … I was completely blindsided,” she said. She added that the number one thing she wanted from a relationship was a partner who had her back, someone who would come out and say, “No, I have never cheated on my girlfriend. I would never do that.” And that’s all that needed to be said. He did not, however, say that. “Never once.”
She said she never got confirmation that Powell and Sweeney were romantically involved, but added that the breaking point in their relationship came when she received a call from him.
“I got a call from him, right before I was about to head to Australia for work … I had jobs lined up … and he called and said, ‘The producers and I have discussed that I think it’s best that you don’t come to visit.’” Then there’s a long beep in the podcast recording before she adds, “And that’s when I hung up. And I was like, ‘This motherf***er is done to me.’”
That’s cold, Glen Powell. I know he plays Hangman in Top Gun: Maverick, but that’s some serious Iceman bullsh**t.
“In a relationship, I think that the girl should always be the princess,” she added later. “In that relationship, I was not.”
