Elizabeth Chambers Says Messy Divorce from Armie Hammer Was Good For Their Kids

Following the premiere of her new reality show Grand Cayman: Secrets in Paradise, an Elizabeth Chambers documentary masquerading as a fun, sexy, island drama situation, the leading lady gave an interview in which she opened up a little more about the trauma of her public divorce from Armie Hammer and how it affected their kids.

“Adversity is not the worst thing that can happen to children,” she said. “I had to keep in mind during my divorce, like, ‘This is not what I envisioned’—but also, how to pivot is ultimately the best thing you can teach your kids in life.” I’m sorry, “how to pivot” is the best thing you can teach your kids? What about, I don’t know, kindness and stuff? How to wipe your ass? Walking? “Communication and honesty and openness” are, she says, also of the utmost importance in parenting, which is just so rich coming from the woman who basically called all of her ex-husband’s accusers crazy sluts while essentially causing the scandal that took him down in the first place.

Her move to Grand Cayman and opening of a location of her BIRD Bakery on the island was in part an effort to create a better life for her children, she says.

“I can’t leave here without roots, and these roots are for them. I hope that when they have their kids and I’m a grandmother, that we come to BIRD Bakery after the beach. That would be my hope for them, that they have an identity here … something that we created during a pretty magical time.”

The “magical time” she refers to must be when she and Hammer, still married at the time, first moved to the Cayman Islands in 2020, right before the divorce. Or, so one would assume.

“All things considered, the last four years have been pure magic in their eyes—which is all that matters,” she says. “We live in gratitude, we live in abundance, we live in the moment and adventure.” Excuse me while I go barf.

She describes the “adventure” of filming the reality show as “Totally out of the box for me,” but she’s glad she did it because, after all, “You don’t always want to be so safe.” However, she wasn’t expecting the drama in her family life to be such a big topic of discussion. She thought we were here to watch her open a bakery!

“What happens in my family stays in my family. What happens in my personal life stays in my personal life. And so if people want to have ideas or speculation or think that they know a reality that is not a reality, they don’t.”
