Friends, most days it’s probably good to be Nicki Minaj, but that wasn’t the case when she recently cancelled a concert in France, hours before she was to go on, when fans were already in the arena.
Citing “technical concerns,” Nicki took to Instagram to apologize after the fact (side note, she makes some smacking sounds with her mouth repeatedly in the video, and that drives me bananas, so you’ve been warned.)
From the video, per People’s transcription, “every artist — every artist — has technical difficulties and have to cancel shows. I want to tell you guys that I love you dearly and I really hope to make it up very soon.”
Fans who were already in the arena when Nicki pulled the plug were not amused and began shouting for Cardi B, maybe as a way to show their displeasure to Nicki, but we cannot completely discount that they may have believed Cardi B to be like Beetlejuice, and by shouting her name repeatedly, thought they could summon her to perform. Stranger things have happened.
Here’s where it gets juicy. Cardi posted this on Instagram approximately 30 minutes after Nicki posted her explanation video:
Look, Judge Kara Brown is no longer doing Shade Court, so I can’t be one hundred percent on this, but…that’s pretty shady, no? Cardi has plausible deniability that her post is merely to promote her newest single with Bruno Mars, Please Me, but she’s entirely decked out in Chanel, an extremely famous French fashion house. Surely it’s not a coincidence, after Nicki cancels a concert in France, that Cardi pops up on Instagram wearing that, and her stance is reminiscent of someone indicating that they can’t hear you (shouting for her)?!
If you recall, Cardi and Nicki have been in a feud for a bit now, per People:
The two New York rappers have a longstanding beef that culminated in a fight at New York Fashion Week in September 2018.
Minaj weighed in on the scuffle — during which Cardi, 26, tore her dress and was seen throwing a shoe in Minaj’s direction — that month, saying she found it “so mortifying.”
All I’m saying is if I were Cardi B, I wouldn’t be able to let this moment go by, and while I’m not Cardi (surprise!) I was once a girl in Junior High, and friends, hers is a masterclass post in how to let someone know that you know.
