Over the weekend, the Chiefs/Ravens game coincided with a birthday party my twins attended, which was fine. I watched the game with a few of the parents, and all the girls did their birthday-party thing until Taylor Swift made a brief appearance (30 seconds in a 3-hour game, I believe), and all the girls lost their shit. It was fun, and while Taylor Swift was already in heavy rotation in my home, the twins’ sudden interest in the NFL has been (mostly) fun — “mostly” because I spend most of every game answering questions about the players, the rules, and the odds of each team winning (“Do you promise the Chiefs will win, Dad? DO YOU PROMISE?”)

Many mostly conservative men seem to hate that Taylor Swift keeps showing up on their televisions (a grand total of two minutes and 30 seconds this season, from what I understand), and I don’t think it has that much to do with Taylor Swift. Do these men not have children who have shown a sudden interest in their interests? Is that bothersome? Or is it, as some have suggested, irritating and threatening that Travis Kelce is a better partner than they are to their wives and girlfriends?

Or is this all about politics? They don’t like Travis Kelce because he’s pro-vaccine and anti-conspiracy, and they don’t like Swift because they worry that she might sway the election against the MAGA movement. And they feel threatened by that, and so they have lashed out. For instance, some antisemitic guy with half a million followers on Rumble even called for their executions.

One 76-year-old man, however, is here for the union of Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce, even if he does keep calling him Kelsey Grammer.

“Taylor Swift, I don’t think in the history of showbusiness, in the history of popular culture, we’ve ever witnessed anything like this,” Letterman said during an Instagram video. “We live in a world now where all we hear is nonsense and ugliness, and the nonsense can’t be more nonsensical and the ugliness … God hopes it can’t get any uglier, but that’s all we hear. That’s all we hear. So now, here’s Taylor Swift, who is a glowing bright light of goodness in the world.”

She kind of is, isn’t she? And no, it doesn’t hurt that Swift is also anti-MAGA. “I say to both camps, ‘This is such a lovely thing. Shut up! It’s good for the footballers. It’s good for Taylor Swift, and it’s something positive and happy for the world.

“Also, politically, Taylor Swift is a huge force, and I think just wants to see people do the right thing. So God bless Taylor Swift” and Travis Kelce.

Letterman must be part of the government’s psy ops program.

In the meantime, if Taylor Swift wants to do some immediate good, try to convince Chiefs fans to quit it with the chant.
