Magician David Copperfield has been accused of sexual misconduct by 16 women, more than half of whom say they were under 18 at the time of the alleged incidents, according to a five-year investigation by The Guardian.
The claims span from the late 1980s to 2014 and include allegations that he drugged and sexually assaulted three women, that he either groped or made four women inappropriately touch him during live performances, including three of whom were teenagers, and he promised to help women with their careers while maintaining contact with their parents. He also asked a woman, later revealed to be a victim of Jeffrey Epstein, if she was aware girls were being paid to find other girls for Epstein
One woman claimed that Copperfield began grooming her when she was 15 with tickets to his shows, late-night phone calls, and other gifts. After she turned 18, she lost her virginity to Copperfield.
Copperfield denies the allegations. His lawyers claim he has never acted inappropriately, especially with anyone underage. The 67-year-old has not been criminally charged, although investigations are ongoing. Copperfield has previously been linked to Jeffrey Epstein, and in 2018, was accused of drugging and sexually assaulting a 17-year-old model. The FBI also conducted a two-year investigation into an allegation that a woman was raped on his island in 2007. That investigation was mysteriously dropped.
Copperfield’s romantic partner, with whom he has one child, is Chloé Gosselin. She was 22 when the two met. He was 52.
