The Wrap went and blew the lid off Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s unprofessional behavior in a piece that details years of unprofessional behavior that ultimately led to the $250 million potential disaster that is Amazon’s Red One.

That film, which was supposed to come out last Christmas, has been pushed into November of this year, not because of the labor strikes, as Amazon/MGM has stated, but because Dwayne Johnson couldn’t be bothered to show up to set on time.

Johnson was late an average of seven to eight hours per day and missed several entire days of production, ballooning costs by at least $50 million according to three insiders who insisted on anonymity for fear of being fired.

“It was a f-king disaster,” said one insider. On days when Johnson didn’t show up at all the production crew was forced to shoot around him, the insiders added.

“Dwayne truly doesn’t give a f-k,” one insider bluntly said.

Although there were no reports of it from the set of Red One, Johnson also apparently has a habit — that he has professed to as a sort of badge of honor — of “saving time” by peeing in a Voss water bottle instead of going to a public restroom. Worse? “His team or a PA” has to dispose of the bottle. Ew.

Johnson’s chronic tardiness seemingly went back years — stemming “from his refusal to work a full shooting day, despite factoring in his three-hour daily workout routine — and was, in part, the reason for the friction between him and Vin Diesel in the Fast and Furious movies. Johnson even reportedly pissed off Ryan Reynolds. I didn’t even know Reynolds was capable of anger.

During production in the fall of 2020 on Netflix’s similarly titled Red Notice, Ryan Reynolds was so infuriated after waiting five hours for Johnson that they had a “huge fight,” according to insiders. Johnson then stormed off set. The two stars didn’t speak for years until they recently patched things up.

There are more reports about his tardiness from the sets of The Rampage and even Ballers. The Rock’s unprofessional behavior not only reportedly resulted in an extra $50 million being added to the budget of Red One, but the movie itself may be a disaster. At CinemaCon this year, they only screened 10 minutes of the film to select journalists “handpicked” by Dwayne Johnson. “The complete media blackout surrounding the Red One footage suggests that Amazon is aware that it will have a rocky road to its delayed release,” reports The Wrap.

Johnson’s reputation has taken a hit in recent years, thanks in part to a few underperformers at the box office, including Black Adam. Now that he’s not the big star he once was, the whispers have finally turned into roars. This certainly won’t help the reputation Johnson has tried to give himself as the hardest-working man in show business.
