Having a painful chronic illness sounds like a nightmare. Christina Applegate was officially diagnosed with MS back in 2021, and, since then, she’s been vocal about her chronic pain and mobility issues. Christina has said the disease has completely changed her life and “it f*cking sucks.”
Last month, Christina and fellow actress/MS-sufferer, Jamie-Lynn Sigler, debuted their new podcast, MeSsy. On yesterday’s episode, 52-year-old Christina talked about how she was suffering through a “pretty bad” MS relapse (at the time of recording; the episode description notes it was partly recorded back in 2023). Christina tells Jamie-Lynn her legs were “just done,” via Entertainment Weekly:
“My legs have never been this bad,” she emphasized. “I don’t know what’s going on, like, no energy, legs are just done, like, can’t get circulation, I can’t get them to stop hurting.”
Christina says the pain was so excruciating, she hadn’t showered in three weeks. The inability to do even minor things for herself also caused her to fall into a deep depression. The lack of sleep also wasn’t helping:
“I haven’t slept for 24 hours because my eye is doing something weird, where every time I close my eye to go to sleep, my right eye starts to shift like this.”
Jesus. Christina and Jamie-Lynn first connected through their mutual friend, Lance Bass (all roads in Hollywood lead to Lance Bass). The women spent hours talking on the phone, and eventually, they decided to make a podcast: “We’d be laughing and crying, and we were like, ‘This is helping us. Let’s record this. Let’s do it!’”
Back in January, Christina made a surprise presenter appearance at the Emmys (she was nominated for her performance in the final season of Dead to Me). She walked onstage using her cane and host Anthony Anderson at her side. When Christina got a standing ovation, she joked that the audience was “totally shaming” her disability by standing up.
