Cardi B has never been shy about discussing, well, anything. She'll talk about it, rap about it, and maybe corner you in the street to gossip about it should you be so lucky. That includes being candid about her plastic surgeries. She's had breast augmentation, liposuction, fillers, and veneers. She's also had a BBL, known as a Brazilian Butt Lift, and injectables into the rear, which were not exactly safe or legal. In 2022, she admitted that she'd gotten some of those fillers, which were made from a kind of bio-silicone gel, in a basement when she was younger. Over the years, Cardi's undergone a lot of procedures to remove that gel and to downsize her BBL. Now, she's hoping to go even smaller.
Cardi is currently on her Little Miss Drama world tour, and she brought out fellow performer Kehlani during one of her sold out concerts in Los Angeles. Backstage, the pair hung out, and Kehlani paid her friend a compliment. 'You have so much ass!' Kehlani told her. Almost immediately, Cardi replied, 'After this tour, I'm taking some out. After this tour, I don't wanna hear nobody for three months. I'm going to Columbia. Nobody hit me up, nothing. I'm taking this ass out!'
This won't be the first time Cardi has had reduction surgery on her backside, but her openness has offered us yet another reminder that butt surgeries are super effing scary and extremely dangerous. The fatality rate for people undergoing BBLs is way higher than any other plastic surgery. This kind of surgical fat transfer can so easily go wrong: you could get internal scarring, blockages in blood vessels, death of fat tissue, or intense infections. Even the best surgeons in the world cannot guarantee a 100% safe surgery, but a lot of people get this work done abroad for cheaper or even in non-regulated offices or some dude's basement. In the UK, a woman died after a scam artist calling himself the Lip King injected her backside with dermal filler for a 'non-surgical BBL.'
The BBL trend, if we can even call it that, does seem to have died down. The Kardashians have had theirs removed in favour of rich conservative white women thinness. As always, the bodies and femininity of Black womanhood that were once shamed are hijacked by culture for fads then discarded once something else comes along. And what we're left with is a lot of pain, a lot of potentially irreversible damage, and many deaths. Cardi's been open about feeling the pressure to conform to impossible standards and being scolded for getting work done, the catch-22 situation many female celebrities find themselves in. It's an unwinnable game, even if you're rich and famous.
Let's end on a cheerier note. Cardi B says F**K ICE.
During a performance, Cardi B says "if ICE come in here, we're gonna jump their a--es!"
She says ICE won't kidnap her fans.
