Here’s something genuinely rare: Brittany Snow has been acting for more than 30 years, she’s starred in three Pitch Perfect movies, Hairspray, and a string of other pop culture staples, and I couldn’t tell you a single thing about her personal life. She doesn’t even have a Personal Life section on Wikipedia. Her entire romantic history is summed up in three matter-of-fact sentences: she got engaged, she got married, and she got divorced three years later. The whole thing is wedged between her credits in a Netflix rom-com (Someone Great) and a Ti West horror flick (X), although further research reveals she was married to a reality star who cheated on her.
That kind of quiet longevity is nearly unheard of in Hollywood, especially for a former child star. Snow has kept her head down and steadily built a résumé that spans genres and decades. She’s currently starring in Netflix’s hit series The Hunting Wives, which seems to be gaining traction with positive word of mouth, and it’s the latest pivot in a career full of them. She’s done a network family drama (American Dreams), a teen comedy classic (John Tucker Must Die), a bad horror remake (Prom Night), and of course, the a cappella franchise Pitch Perfect. She even stepped behind the camera to direct a well-received indie, Parachute, which premiered at SXSW and holds an 83 percent on Rotten Tomatoes. Did you know that she once co-hosted the CMT Awards? What?
Snow plays the supportive friend, the steady hand, the grounded counterweight to the leads. She elevates a project without demanding the attention — basically, she’s the Chris Messina of women in Hollywood. She shows up, she delivers, and she disappears until the next one.
Her next big role is in Hulu’s upcoming Murdaugh Murders series, where she’ll play the journalist who unravels the tangled web of the infamous South Carolina crime family. It sounds great, and once again, Snow’s playing the entry point into the story. She picks interesting projects, she does good work, and she somehow keeps the world at arm’s length while doing it (though, I did catch her dancing around her ex-husband’s infidelities on the Call Her Daddy podcast). It’s the kind of career most actors say they want, and Brittany Snow’s doing it right under our goddamn noses.
