Britney Spears’ memoir comes out next Tuesday, and, for the past few days, the Internet has been flooded with excerpts covering Brit’s biggest traumas: the abortion she didn’t want, Justin Timberlake breaking things off via text, the head-shaving incident, her 13-year conservatorship, etc.

But not everything in Britney’s life has been so depressing. For example, her two-week fling with Colin Farrell. The year was 2002. Our Princess of Pop had just been dumped by Justin Timberlake. In the weeks that followed, JT slept with “six or seven girls.” Britney, on the other hand, was totally heartbroken: “He was a girl’s dream. I was in love with him.”

Determined to move on, 21-year-old Britney made the decision to start dating again. In late 2002, a “club promoter friend” introduced her to Colin, then 26. The two connected, Britney visited him on the set of his movie S.W.A.T., and the pair engaged in a “two-week brawl”:

“Brawl is the only word for it—we were all over each other, grappling so passionately it was like we were in a street fight.”

So… sex. Lots and lots of wild hot-person sex. In January 2003, Britney attended the premiere of Colin’s movie, The Recruit (see header pic), and she realized she wasn’t totally over Justin:

“As I had before when I’d felt too attached to a man, I tried to convince myself in every way that it was not a big deal, that we were just having fun, that in this case, I was vulnerable because I wasn’t over Justin yet.”

At the premiere, Colin told reporters that things with Britney were casual: “We’re not dating. She’s a sweet, sweet girl. There’s nothing going on — just mates.” Later that year, Britney told W Magazine that she had “kissed” Colin, but it was “nothing serious.”

While Britney doesn’t write about how things with Colin ended in The Woman in Me, she says:

“For a brief moment in time, I did think there could be something there. The disappointments in my romantic life were just one part of how isolated I became. I felt so awkward all the time.”

Damn, even the Colin Farrell fling was depressing. I’m starting to think being a super-famous pop star isn’t as fun as it looks?
