Britney Spears’ much-anticipated memoir, The Woman in Me, hits stores in exactly one week. Today, People published an excerpt from the book in which Britney reveals that she got an abortion while she was dating Justin Timberlake. Apparently, Britney wanted to have the baby, but Justin encouraged her to terminate the pregnancy because they were “way too young.” Aaand there it is. There’s the big memoir bombshell that’s had JT shaking in his designer boots.
Britney reportedly got the abortion in late 2000, when she was 18 or 19. Justin would have been 19. She writes that the pregnancy may have been “a surprise”, but for her, “it wasn’t a tragedy.” She continues:
I loved Justin so much. I always expected us to have a family together one day. This would just be much earlier than I’d anticipated. But Justin definitely wasn’t happy about the pregnancy. He said we weren’t ready to have a baby in our lives, that we were way too young.
Britney writes, “I’m sure people will hate me for this”, but she agreed not to have the baby:
I don’t know if that was the right decision. If it had been left up to me alone, I never would have done it. And yet Justin was so sure that he didn’t want to be a father. To this day, it’s one of the most agonizing things I have ever experienced in my life.
Here’s the thing. 19 is really young to have a baby. But Britney didn’t want an abortion. And it’s not like she didn’t have the money or resources to raise the child. Justin pressuring her to terminate the pregnancy wasn’t cool. What makes it even worse is his treatment of Britney after their split less than two years later. He completely threw her under the bus to launch his solo career. The whole situation is once again painting Justin as a mega-douche, a label he’s been trying to shed since he belatedly apologized for his treatment of Britney and Janet Jackson in 2021.
Britney’s abortion revelation is already huge news. Page Six immediately published an article about how Justin “made his pro-choice political views public knowledge” years after “pressuring” Britney to get the abortion. In 2008, Justin and future wife Jessica Biel spoke at a Barack Obama rally. During the event, Jessica said, “Nobody should be able to say what you can do with your body.” Then, Justin joked:
“I give Jess the right to choose where we go to eat all the time. The funny thing is, what the woman chooses is usually right.”
The news also has fans on social media reflecting on the 2004 video for Brit’s ballad, Everytime:
oh so britney spears’ everytime wasn’t about justin timberlake but it was about the baby?!

People reached out to Justin’s rep for comment, but they did not immediately respond. Hey, fair enough. It’ll take at least 24 hours for Team JT to craft the perfect statement. That shit needs to be equal parts remorseful, feminist, and “but I was a baby boy in the olden days!”
