Recent fashion maven Anne Hathaway recently spoke to Porter magazine about her changing career.
“When I started out [in this industry] as a child, I was warned that my career would fall off a cliff at the age of 35, which is something I know a lot of women face. The thing that has evolved during [that time] is that more women are having careers deeper into their lives, which I think is fantastic,” she said.
But that doesn’t mean the problem of sexism in Hollywood is solved, she explained, acknowledging that “There’s so much to be proud of, and there’s so much to fix.”
Hathaway is one of those ever-present stars whose movies, like them or not, have stood the test of time; titles like The Princess Diaries and The Devil Wears Prada.
“It is such a sweet feeling to know that you’re kind of woven into someone’s life. I can’t describe the honor of knowing that I’m involved in the moments where people need comfort. It makes me really excited that my journey as a performer has connected with people. I love [when] projects have a life beyond their initial release,” she reflected.
She’s not done, though. Last year, it was Armageddon Time with Jeremy Strong and WeCrashed with Jared Leto, and this year she stars in She Came to Me (released October 6) opposite Peter Dinklage and Marisa Tomei, and Eileen (releases Dec. 8), based on the novel by Ottessa Moshfegh.
It was at the Eileen Sundance premiere in January that Hathaway recounted one of the first questions she was asked when she started acting: “Are you a good girl or a bad girl?”
“I was 16, and my 16-year-old self wanted to respond with this film,” she said. “Though I did not know that when I read the script, I think a part of me hoped for this exact moment.”
