Robert DeNiro is a notoriously difficult interview. Someone—maybe Letterman—once said that he was one of his most difficult interviews, mostly because he gives “yes” and “no” answers and rarely elaborates beyond that. He’s a great actor—one of the best of all time—he’s just not a particularly eloquent person. And that’s OK.
He’s also one of the most vocal and outspoken critics of our current administration. He’s not a fan, although that particular topic is one that can actually elicit some verbosity from DeNiro (he once dropped an F-bomb on CNN while talking about the President). And Amy Poehler, for one, appreciates it—not because he’s the only critic of the administration (god knows), but because he’s rare(ish) as an older white guy who actually wields his power for good. And by that, I mean: against Trump.
I’ve probably seen 30 Robert DeNiro movies—maybe more. I can’t think of a time when I saw Robert DeNiro cry in a film. And a 45-second compliment from Amy Poehler makes the man choke up. I love it.
Here it is, queued up.
