Before Jessica Chastain was in Interstellar, before she vanished in The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby, before she went goth in Mama, before she found Obama in Zero Dark Thirty, before she played young Helen Mirren in The Debt, before she helped out in The Help, and before she was in the billion other movies she’s been in since 2011, she was just a regular actress getting by with bit roles on television and in films. Here’s a look at where Jessica had been before she flooded our movie screens.
1. Veronica Mars
Veronica Mars, do-gooder that she is, attempted to find Sarah Williams, played by Chastain, the pregnant next-door neighbor who ran away to hide the fact that her baby wasn’t in fact her boyfriend’s, but the result of a rape.
2. Law & Order: Trial by Jury
Though not from the original actor breeding ground, this short-lived L&O offshoot, which aired from 2005-2006, had Chastain as a regular, playing an assistant district attorney.
3. Agatha Christie’s Poirot: Murder on the Orient Express
Chastain received rave reviews for her portrayal of murder suspect Mary Debenham. Fun fact: Michael Fassbender appeared in the series a whole lot, alongside Damian Lewis and Emily Blunt. Chastain and Fassy should do a movie together.
While Jon Hamm was Mad Men-ing, he had time to film this movie about disappearing sons. Chastain plays Josh Lucas’ wife
Also: Jon Hamm and Kyle Chandler for a depressing disheveled cop movie please?
5. Dark Shadows
No, not the recent Tim Burton remake with Johnny Depp, and not the television series from 1991 (with JGL), and not the original soap opera series from the 1960s, either. This was a pilot remake that wasn’t picked up and never aired, with Chastain as a mother to daughter Chloë Grace Moretz.
Another one of those shows where every actor ever has made at least one appearance. Chastain is no exception, playing a daughter whose father is in the hospital, and it becomes all kinds of twisted.
