Virtually the Entire Cast of "The West Wing" Reunites for an Awesome Campaign Ad

How do you get almost the entire cast of "The West Wing" (sans Rob Lowe, who -- to be fair -- wasn't on at the end of the series) to reunite for a campaign commercial for a Michigan Supreme Court candidate in a non-partisan race? Well, it helps if the candidate is the sister of Mary McCormack, who played Deputy National Security Adviser Kate Harper.

The ad is surprisingly great, and while Josh does deliver some stump-speech genericism, overall, it's almost exactly what you'd want from a political campaign starring the cast of "The West Wing."

Also, Donna! God, I miss Donna. We never see her anywhere, anymore.

    WIN ALL THE VOTES

  • I'm thrilled to see the band back together, but I have to ask... are fans of The West Wing really a problematic group of people in terms of voting and doing it correctly? It seems a little bit like preaching to the choir. Still. CJ AND TOBY 4 LYFE, YO.

  • katenonymous

"Read the message boards?" Didn't CJ ban Josh from the Internet?

  • Lbeees

    "It's Lemon-Lyman dot com!"

  • no one

That was the best political commercial in the history of forever. Great to see those guys togeather again.

  • denesteak

wow.. carole hasn't aged a day. she looks exactly the same.

also... something happened to Josh Lyman's voice. it's different.

Toby was always my favorite too. always, always. I wanted to be exactly like him.

  • Cat

    EEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!! This made my night.

  • Heatseeker

How does Allison Janney look *better* five years later?! She's getting hotter by the year.

    "A movie-star handsome Louis C.K."... yes, indeed.

  • John W

Damn that makes me wish I had watched the show....

  • This made me cry from how much I miss this show.

  • Zed

I wonder what Jed Bartlett is doing post-presidency. Sorkin, get on it. Stop boring us with the news.

  • DarthCorleone

I loved this. The only thing I would add: you should do your homework for those more obscure races (including the partisan ones). Often my discomfort with selecting the nonpartisan people at the back of a ballot stems from not knowing anything about them, and I'm someone who frequently tries to do his homework about them. I'd rather abstain than cast a vote in ignorance. Thus, I also would have used this as a platform to also encourage voters to be more informed about the candidates.

That said, yes, if I lived in Michigan, this ad would be all the convincing I would need to vote for Mary McCormack's sister.

  • Lipton

The problem with knowing what you're getting in a nonpartisan candidate is one of the reasons why I'm pretty much against voting for positions like judges. And even when you do your homework, candidates for judge often have obscure records and speak in the special brand of lawyer double talk that makes day seem like night and up seem like down.

Regardless, I live in Michigan and I'm totally voting for Bridget Mary McCormack. Hmmmm, I wonder what her position is on medical marijuana ...

  • Addy Hansen

Well, it was a "cute" and very good ad. LOVED the "tongue in cheek" references....they were funny. Good to "see" this incredibly talented group of actors "back-together" (even if it IS for a political ad) - I only wish the GREAT show, "The West Wing" was still on and running....

  • marie

I wish Schiff was in more things. DIsregarding whatever the fuck happened with Toby in the final season(s), he was always my favourite character and, to me, the most fully realized performance-wise.
Actually I wish the whole cast were in more things.

  • Milly

Have you seen The Infidel? Schiff is in that and he is glorious.

  • mhandrh

I loved that show -- I loved everything about it -- I love this commercial.

  • Ghisent

Look, all I'm saying is that the world needs more Mary McCormack. A lot more.

  • Tracey Sims

    Where's Charlie?!

  • pajiba

CHARLIE! You're right. Where IS he?

  • Long_Pig_Tailor

    Fighting crime in Santa Barbara.

    Obvs.

  • Xtreme_ZRT

There's not enough on TV these days that bears resemblance to West Wing. Newsroom has a nice feel to it, but lacks much of the seriousness. I enjoy it for other reasons.

  • AudioSuede

This is by far the best West Wing reunion video they've ever done, and it warms my heart.

    "It's an Apocalypse now?!"

    Also, the Louis CK line.

    Hilarious.

  • Scully

CJ looks amazing. Josh Lyman needs to get in my bunk.

  • InternetMagpie

    I choked up.

    Also, CJ's hair looks INCREDIBLE.

  • Long_Pig_Tailor

CJ just plain looks incredible. She's doing some serious wine aging or something because DAMN.

  • Lipton

Oh man, this is kind of awesome. For once it's a good day to be from Michigan.

  • Forbiddendonut

Professor McCormack was my clinical professor during my 3rd year at law school. She's got my vote!

  • pajiba

    NICE.

  • Maguita NYC

I've watched her in interviews, and I have to say, her poise and elocution are very interesting. Makes the whole packaging even more attractive.

Gotta say though, even if I loved this message and hyperventilated with glee at every actor's appearance, it seemed a bit too long in its delivery, especially when it is intended to reach voters who take less than 10 seconds to go through the ballot.

  • Ned

    It's McCormack.

  • Euh, Rob Lowe was on The West Wing in the end. As in: the last 2 episodes or so.

  • Three_nineteen

Plus, Josh was on The West Wing, but not in the West Wing. He was on the campaign trail.

We will not speak of where Toby was at the end.

  • Milly

In his house? Cooking a bird? Finding an error in the constitution?

  • Three_nineteen

    Convicted of treason.

Now I need to watch the video again in order to wash that memory from my mind.
