The Kennedy Center Honors inducted Herbie Hancock, Martina Arroyo, Shirley MacLaine, Billy Joel and Carlos Santana this week. During the ceremony, while the President and the First Lady sat in the audience, Anna Kendrick performed “It’s Not How You Start, It’s How You Finish” to honor MacLaine.

Lady can sang.

She also joined Sutton Foster in the full tribute.

If that’s not enough Kendrick for you (is there ever enough?), if you haven’t seen this yet, here’s some fantastic tap dancers recreating Kendrick’s “Cups,” which may be the most impressive thing in this post.

I can't say I hate her hate her, but the nicest thing I have to say about her is, "At least she's not Lena Dunham."

  • Maddy

I want to be best friends with her. She is the only good thing to come out of those Twilight movies.

  • KC

I love tap dancers. I used to be a tap dancer when I was very very young but I quit because I had a mean teacher (I wish I hadn't and I am very very jealous of tap dancers....really ALL dancers...now). They're so cute.

  • Sarah Weissman

If I took up dancing, it'd be that. It always looks so joyous to me :)

  • KC

It is fun, I wish I had kept up with it! That and show choir!

  • Bad Superman

Shirley winced at the same moment I did. Anna Kendrick is enormously charming and talented, but I suspect she had an over-bearing showbiz mom. It's a form of child abuse.

  • Irina

At the end of the tap dancing video (which is really awesome) when they present the dancers, I love the lady who just drinks her wine. I salute you, madam, and I want to grow up to be just like you (I probably won't, but I will still have my high tolerance for alcohol and that's something, right?)

  • BWeaves

Yup. Now I want to take up tap dancing. And wine drinking.

  • Sarah Weissman

AT THE SAME TIME. YES PLEASE.

  • Both YouTube videos unavailable. Augh!

  • Guest

Her perpetually open mouth and her crooked legs are cute in small doses but this performance was not really impressive.

The tap dancers though, were pretty good.

  • F'mal DeHyde

I haven't enjoyed her in any movies I've seen but this performance was pretty cute. I'm still not a fawning fan like Rowles though.

Pour one out for the Bunheads...

Sutton Foster will live on, regardless..

  • Sarah Weissman

Indeed. If she wants, she will never NOT be on Broadway in the next few years.

  • e jerry powell

As it should be. Not to suggest she shouldn't have film or TV work, but let's face it, she's a live theater goddess.

I don't need any help in that respect.

  • PDamian

Lady can sang, indeed. What she can't do is move. I don't know if it was nerves, but compared to Sutton Foster's high kicks and Patina Miller's sinuous moves, she seemed decidedly awkward and somewhat stilted. Never mind -- the voice was glorious.

  • Sarah Weissman

I suppose that's what happens when you put her next to three RECENT Tony winners who've had consistent gigs on Broadway(Olivo won for Anita in West Side Story). It was smart of them to have a name known from movies too, though, and it's not like she's talentless.

  • Wait, I thought we all agreed that part of the allure here is the slight physical awkwardness, a sense of being not perfectly comfortable with that body. That's part of her, thing, no?

  • Guest

It's gotta be pretty hard to dance and belt a song like that at the same time. Choreography could have masked the awkies a little more, though.

  • Sarah Weissman

She did get a Tony Nomination when she was 12, I believe. Love her.

  • L.O.V.E.

She is making a strong push to become my 2014 Honorary Avatar.

  • janetfaust

Awww, look at her, she looks so nervous. It was good, but not great, IMHO. I honestly like Anna Kendrick though, not trying to hate on her.

  • emmalita

But she finished well. Which was the point of the song. (No, I don't think her initial discomfort was planned)
