Incontrovertible Evidence that Tina Fey Is Better Than All of Us

The ceremony for the Mark Twain Prize aired last night on PBS, and thanks to the wonder that is the Internet, you won’t have to suffer through the entire ordeal in order to see Tina Fey’s fantastic acceptance speech. In fact, even the acceptance speech has been edited down to two minutes because the Internet understands that time is valuable and that Call of Duty awaits. So, think of this as the perfect two-minute pick-me-up. Then you can go back to filling in that spreadsheet, drone.

Fuck CoD.
Call me when Diablo III is released.

Tina Fey is The Bomb.

She is better than me, I admit that without shame. Now if only more young girls understood WHY she's better than say...the pussycat dolls (they don't deserve capital letters).

I guess it's official, Tina Fey is funny. Suck it Palin!

*sigh*

I am ass over teakettle in love with her for so many and all of the right reasons.

Posted by: Spender at November 15, 2010 6:16 PM

Fuck Diablo III.
Call me when Dragon Age II is released.

Tina Fey is The Bomb.

Fuck Diablo III AND Call of Duty call me when Gran Turismo 5 is released.

Tina who?

Posted by: BarbadoSlim at November 15, 2010 6:25 PM

Oh and let's not go crazy here. Granted, she's funny for these times, I suppose. But rest assured, 100 years from now Mark Twain will still be remembered while neither Whoopi, nor Lily Tomlin or her, who really just wrote for a tired late night comedy show, will not. They won't even be footnotes.

Posted by: BarbadoSlim at November 15, 2010 6:31 PM

Did anyone else think she sounded like she was doing an impression of Kristen Wiig during the joke about putting her parents in a home?

Posted by: val at November 15, 2010 6:36 PM

She is overrated. Hate me for telling the truth if you must.

Posted by: BigTodd at November 15, 2010 6:40 PM

That isn't why we hate you.

I know the reasons are many and varied, but it does'nt change the fact she is overrated.

Posted by: BigTodd at November 15, 2010 6:50 PM

I think the best thing about Fey, and 30 Rock, and the thing that sets both apart from so much of the satirical comedy out there is that she cares about, maybe even loves, the subjects of her satire enough to draw them well. Jack Donaghy is pompous and she obviously disagrees with his politics, but she (and probably Baldwin himself and other writers) took the time to actually flesh him out into something more than a greedy neanderthal, and they even let him be right from time to time. It's a really nice touch. Obviously they're making fun of someone who is like me in some ways, and I don't find myself saying "what a lazy bunch of party-line bullshit, that's not the way guys like us really are." That's a supreme compliment in my book.

Fuck Diablo III, Dragon Age II, The Bible Game and Gran Turismo 5, where's my copy of Black Ops?

And Tina Fey is too funny. And adorable. She's a lethal mix.

I'm not kidding.

Posted by: Spender at November 15, 2010 7:15 PM

BigTodd, entertainment is a subjective, rather than an objective, medium. You can say you think she's overrated, but you can't prove she's overrated and state it's "fact" or "true." Until there is a scientific comedy testing system that accounts for all variables in subject matter, taste, and intended audiences, you're stuck with opinion and debate, not stubborn resistance to conversation. Upon the development of said testing system, you might be able to back up that kind of statement with proof other than your opinion of a subjective matter.

Let's get the facts.

1) What is Tina Fey's rating ? 1.65? 323.47? what?

2) What should her rating be ?

Until we get the facts, we can never determine whether she is overrated, and if so, by how much.

Posted by: Pat C. at November 15, 2010 7:22 PM

That made my day.

Posted by: JapJay at November 15, 2010 7:23 PM

She is my Lady Love. The rest of the ceremony was a little tired, but in my book she can do no wrong.

Posted by: Mulva at November 15, 2010 7:42 PM

I wonder why the bit about John McCain was edited out. It was my favorite part of the speech.

Posted by: Scully at November 15, 2010 7:45 PM

I love Tina Fey very, very hard (knowwhatimsayin?).

But that hair.

Ummm....Damn?

Posted by: Groundloop at November 15, 2010 8:06 PM

Cannot STAND her.

Posted by: Jen at November 15, 2010 9:07 PM

I adore Tina Fey, and think she is a worthy recipient of this award.

That said, are you fucking kidding me with her only being the third woman? Just for example, where the fuck is Carol Burnett on that list? (Yes, I'm old - but Carol Burnett was a BRILLIANT comedienne in her prime.) That is really depressing right there.

The hair was horrid. Sorry Tina.

Posted by: Edith at November 15, 2010 9:12 PM

Edith you're 100% right about Carol Burnett. The Carol Burnett show was one of the best ever. Back when variety shows still aired on TV.

You youngsters know what a Variety show is?

Posted by: John W at November 15, 2010 9:35 PM

I like her because I think she's funny, a great writer, she has great taste in glasses, and when she talks/jokes about her political choices or what's going on in the world, she says exactly what she means in a healthy, even-handed manner (Sean Penn I'm looking at you), and she zings the GOP just enough that you're like "Yes! I was thinking the same thing but you just said it better!" Half the time I see Republicans laugh at her jokes and then are like "crap, she's talking about me."

Posted by: scorzi at November 15, 2010 10:22 PM

That comment about wanting for women to not be numbered any time they win something was probably one of the most inspirational things I've heard in a while. Tina Fey is a total class act and proof that there's still intelligent PEOPLE(not women, people) in comedy today.

Posted by: Danny from Puerto Rico at November 15, 2010 10:23 PM

They should re-run the Carol Burnett Show in prime time, right after re-runs of The Muppet Show. THIS is a night of TV worth watching.

Posted by: Lindsey with an 'e' at November 16, 2010 3:50 AM

Right on, LindsEy.

Posted by: Rykker at November 16, 2010 5:38 AM

Meh. It was ok. But if she was really brilliant it wouldn't have been edited in the first place.

Posted by: logan at November 16, 2010 9:45 AM

HuffPo has posted, I think, the entire acceptance speech:

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/11/16/tina-fey-mark-twain-speech_n_784178.html

"And, you know, politics aside, the success of Sarah Palin and women like her is good for all women - except, of course --those who will end up, you know, like, paying for their own rape 'kit 'n' stuff, But for everybody else, it's a win-win. Unless you're a gay woman who wants to marry your partner of 20 years - whatever. But for most women, the success of conservative women is good for all of us. Unless you believe in evolution. You know - actually, I take it back. The whole thing's a disaster."

Posted by: Scully at November 16, 2010 11:49 AM

I'm surprised it took 20 comments before we mentioned her hair. Her speech was hilarious and she is not overrated (that statement coming from a man who honestly does not like 30 Rock at all). But the hair!?!?!

Just kidding. Congrats Tina!!
