"Howlin' For You" Video: I Will Get The Information I Want, Even If I Have To Stab It Outta You

What does it say when a music video by an unknown director is better than 90% of the movies out there? Of course, it helps to have an all-star cast of B-movie actors, if such a thing makes sense. And that’s what you get with the video for The Black Keys’ “Howlin’ For You.” It’s a grindhouse-styled trailer set to their song, and while, yes, the grindhouse thing is getting a little out of hand (Hobo With A Shotgun, anyone?), it’s still a pretty amusing little short.

Directed by Chris Marrs, the short/music video stars Diora Baird, Sean Patrick Flannery, Tricia Helfer, Corbin Bernsen and… Shaun White. Talk about eclectic. Take a look:

I don’t know that it would make a good full-length film (grindhouse flicks are usually long on concept and short on execution), but it makes a hell of a music video. It even lets me forgive The Black Keys for the rest of Brothers.

The Black Keys have the best videos. Have you seen the one for "Next Girl" with a singing dinosaur puppet? Or the video for "10 A.M. Automatic" with David Cross? Awesome.

Noticing a music theme on the site today, likely because of the Grammys. I must say, I approve.

Wait, just read your slight against Brothers! You didn't like that album? I thought it was the best work they've ever done. It's the perfect balance between their grimy, hard-rockin' early work and the decidedly more mellow Attack and Release. So many stellar tracks: "Howlin' For You," "Tighten Up," "Next Girl," "Never Gonna Give You Up," "Ten Cent Pistol," "Everlasting Light." Gem after gem.

What I mean to say is, *frowny face*.

insanely watchable.
is this the only music video for the song? surprising that they'd have so much voiceover work in it, but i'm not sorry they did

Brothers is a staggeringly good album. This video just adds another layer of icing on the cake.

Fake trailers are easy.

Ok... i got to about 10 seconds of it before stopping it and deciding I should probably not watch this AT WORK. Sigh, will have to wait til home...

Also, all this Brothers love is making me all excited to go home and relisten to my CD. I actually got the CD because it turns black and white with word appearing.

Agreed with ChristianH. Brothers is an awesome album. Being from Akron, though, I'm a little biased. I've been a fan since "Rubber Factory" and every album has been better than the last.

What you talkin' bout Willis?

I saw The Black Keys open for Sleater Kinney in 2003 and have been a fan since then. Their first album, The Big Come Up, is fantastic and Brothers is easily their best to date. Best live shows I've ever seen. Hands down.

God I love this.

Anyone else heard the mashup album (well a few of the songs) by Wick-It? He mashed up The Black Keys and that new Big Boi cd. It is wicked good (and I'm not even from New England).

Also I am so happy the Black Keys won last night. Arcade Fire who?

Posted by: grace b at February 14, 2011 12:06 PM

Grace, YESSS! That mashup is awesome. Best mashup since (500) Days of Weezy (the mashup of Lil' Wayne and the (500) Days of Summer soundtrack).

Posted by: ChristianH at February 14, 2011 12:32 PM

the REST of Brothers? Holy shit, I can't listen to one track on that goddamn album without listening to the others.

Am I lacking a nuanced understanding of the Black Keys' earlier releases or something?

Posted by: seed at February 14, 2011 12:40 PM

Christian H I know! I've been telling EVERYONE I know about it. They just look at me like I'm crazy. It's so damn awesome.

I love mashups. (big fan of the mashups of With or Without You and Love Story, yea it's really good you haters!

Great video. These dudes really know how to have fun and they rock the shit out of anything they do. I actually started off backwards as a Black Keys fan...I got Brothers first and have collected all of their albums on vinyl and Jesus Christ on the cross are they all amazing!

I love the Tighten Up video (that's the one with the dinosaur puppet) and can't wait to watch this one - I was only disappointed with the "real" Tighten Up video since nothing could top Frank the Funkasaurus Rex.

Can someone please please hire Tricia Helfer to replace the following actresses in future action flicks:

All the Jessicas

Thanks!

"I once choked a chupacabra to death with my own bare hands for not saying grace. Don't ask, you will never know what I'm talking about"

So basically Arnold was right to ask... that boy dun talk some shiiiite

I'd watch the hell out of this movie, but then, I also sat through all of both Bitch Slap and Machine Girl, so I'm pre-disposed.

Brothers is awesome and Tricia Helfer should be first in line to play Diana in the new Wonder Woman show.

'Nuff said. (Or, the DC Comics equivalent: Elsewords.)
