First Look at Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Man on Wire Phillipe Petit in 'The Walk'
The 2008 documentary Man on Wire was a thrilling look at high wire walker Philippe Petit’s 1974 history-making walk between the World Trade Center’s Twin Towers. Robert Zemeckis (Back to the Future, Castaway, The Polar Express) is now making an IMAX 3-D (eek!) film about the feat, based on Petit’s book, iTo Reach The Clouds, Joseph Gordon-Levitt will star as the French daredevil. The Walk’s official description calls it “…A chance for moviegoers to viscerally experience the feeling of reaching the clouds, which only makes someone like me (afraid of heights) want to run screaming, but the idea of Levitt with an affected French accent is a little intriguing. Zemeckis also calls this a “love letter to Paris and New York City in the 1970s, but most of all, to the Towers of the World Trade Center. He’s the only person who ever walked it, who ever will. There’s something beautifully powerful about that.”
The header and this first look photo include Levitt’s co-star Charlotte Le Bon; The Walk also starts Ben Kingsley, James Badge Dale, Ben Schwartz, Steve Valentine, Mark Camacho and Clément Sibony.
JGL talks about The Walk and Petit’s impossible dream:
Petit: “Imagine the grandeur…there’s such elation when it’s just the birds, the sky, and you.”
