This Apple's Rotten, Rotten to the Core: Five Things You May Not Have Heard About This Week

I find the Important Stuff so you don't have to.

5. Another Week--Another Nude Royal...Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge Was Photographed Topless.

CathWills.jpeg

I have mixed feelings over this one. Apparently Prince William and Duchess Catherine were on holiday in Provence, France--at a "private swimming pool"--when Her Royal Highness got the urge to remove her bikini top. But when you're that high up the chain, does privacy apply? And even if it does apply, in light of what happened to Prince William's mother, is that expectation realistic? For my money, there are no excuses on either side. One: A photographer for a French magazine clearly invaded the couple's private space by using a long lens camera to get the shots. Two: William and Catherine know what the paparazzi are capable of. Is it wrong for the royals to feel like they should have privacy? Certainly not; though any fool knows they aren't going to get it. I can understand them feeling hurt and upset, but the naivete seems a bit incredible.

"Their Royal Highnesses had every expectation of privacy in the remote house. It is unthinkable that anyone should take such photographs, let alone publish them."

While there will surely be shouts for harsher paparazzi laws, and more protection for celebrities (royal and otherwise) in the end, the public can do the world a favor by simply not buying the magazine.

4. The Freaky Trailer for Guillermo del Toro's Mama Made Its Presence Known.

Nikolaj Coster-Waldau and Jessica Chastain attempt to parent their orphaned nieces and all hell--aka Mama--breaks loose. This looks like a cross between demonic possession and a haunting; with this level of talent, could we finally be in for a truly good horror film? First time (feature) Director Andres Muschietti hopes so.

The royals deserve privacy? Since when? i thought they earned their millions by providing entertainment for the masses. If its not for the "scandals", and i use the word loosely since the internet is chock full of topless women, then what function do they serve?

  • alm6762

It's time for for William to act like the goddamned KING that he is. It's his wife, and he should be able to protect her from this BS. Send whatever the real life version of James Bond is to kick some ass and take some names.

  • Jezzer

To me, that poster for Mama is more unnerving than the trailer. I'm having PTSD flashbacks to when Nicole Richie was on tv.

  • DeistBrawler

While there will surely be shouts for harsher paparazzi laws, and more protection for celebrities (royal and otherwise) in the end, the public can do the world a favor by simply not buying the magazine.

The privacy laws in France are pretty strict. In fact...the magazine broke the law and will be fined for it. They thought the publicity and magazine sales would be worth the fine.

  • Richard Jenkins needs to be in more things. A lot more.

  • Slash

    This. He's awesome.

  • Anyone who can play the part he does in Cabin in the Woods and the part he plays in The Visitor, and nail them both... Well, yeah - fucking awesome.

  • winged chorus

Look at the beaks on those birds.

  • Colin

Okay, I thought the trailer for Mama was a little bit freaky, but then I scrolled down and maybe it's just me, but the pictures of those dwarves scared the shit out of me.

  • Strand

Not sold on the new dwarves for some reason. They look 'off', like they have very normal human body ratios where if you scale them down to 4 feet, their heads would be the size of grapefruits. I thought dwarves had normal sized heads but stumpier limbs/torsos? At least, that's how Gimli was the last time.

  • Purplejebus

OK, that clip for Mama just freaked me right the Frak out.

  • BiblioGlow

Also, why is Josh Lyman in the header photo? DId I miss that story? IS HE GOING TO BE A DWARF?

  • BiblioGlow

    Hey look, it's Amsterdam!
...Nobody? We can't all have HBO, you know!
    I'll just show myself out.

  • PDamian

Fili and Kili are kinda cute. I approve. And Martin Freeman is so much more attractive with long, slightly mussed hair.

  • Huh. Kili up there? That's exactly what I picture Daario from A Song of Ice and Fire. Just me?

  • Cabin in the Woods wasn't as good as promised!
    There, I said it.

  • Strand

If you bought into the ludicrous amounts of internet hype, sure... but no movie would live up to that. If you went into Cabin In the Woods not knowing what it was, thinking it was a generic horror movie, thing was mind-blowing.

  • BlackRabbit

That's true, the trailers killed it somewhat.

  • Trailers kill everything. Merciless little bloodless fucks. Avoiding them is a goddamn chore, but a totally worthwhile one.

  • BlackRabbit

Dwalin for dwin! Also, Cabin in the Woods? Very very gut, if any don't know.

  • Pants_are_a_must

Mmmmm, Richard Armitage. I see your Aragorn 2.0 ploy, Peter Jackson. And in a pure Freudian slip, I almost wrote "Aragporn" there.

  • Natallica

Short-haired semi-goth Chastain looks great, and I would love to see what Nikolaj Coster-Waldau can do besides awesomely play Jaime Lannister, he's a terrific actor. And the gravitas Sir Ian shows in that Gandalf picture could actually feed enough energy to fuel all Vegas casinos. Iluvatar bless him

  • Wormer

I thought that was Jamie Lannister but having never seen him outside GOT I wasn't sure. I can't wait to see him on the big screen...
    *drool*

  • Exactly what I was thinking - that's the best look on Chastain yet

  • Fabius_Maximus

Really? The woman looks even more like corpse than usual. Fitting for the role, but not very flattering.

  • Well, hell, maybe that says more about me.
