5. Another Week—Another Nude Royal…Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge Was Photographed Topless.

I have mixed feelings over this one. Apparently Prince William and Duchess Catherine were on holiday in Provence, France—at a “private swimming pool”—when Her Royal Highness got the urge to remove her bikini top. But when you’re that high up the chain, does privacy apply? And even if it does apply, in light of what happened to Prince William’s mother, is that expectation realistic? For my money, there are no excuses on either side. One: A photographer for a French magazine clearly invaded the couple’s private space by using a long lens camera to get the shots. Two: William and Catherine know what the paparazzi are capable of. Is it wrong for the royals to feel like they should have privacy? Certainly not; though any fool knows they aren’t going to get it. I can understand them feeling hurt and upset, but the naivete seems a bit incredible.
“Their Royal Highnesses had every expectation of privacy in the remote house. It is unthinkable that anyone should take such photographs, let alone publish them.”
While there will surely be shouts for harsher paparazzi laws, and more protection for celebrities (royal and otherwise) in the end, the public can do the world a favor by simply not buying the magazine.
4. The Freaky Trailer for Guillermo del Toro’s Mama Made Its Presence Known.
Nikolaj Coster-Waldau and Jessica Chastain attempt to parent their orphaned nieces and all hell—aka Mama—breaks loose. This looks like a cross between demonic possession and a haunting; with this level of talent, could we finally be in for a truly good horror film? First time (feature) Director Andres Muschietti hopes so.
