No way, Carrie. Graham's picture is the best because it's untouched. Like, I know Mary Louise Parker is insanely goodlooking, but that picture is photoshopped to hell and it ruins it for me. Eh, women HAVE to stay hot in order to keep working. I think it'd be a lot harder to come up with enough men for the hottest men in their forties list (going by the most conventional standards of hotness), since male actors are allowed to age and get bigger in the waist. I suppose Clooney would be on there.. who else?

Not everybody locks it up and throws away the key the moment they turn 35 or 40. Also, life isn't all about how you look. If it is, then you have a very shallow and unhappy life indeed. Which is why a lot of women handle aging so badly. If they were hot enough when they were young that it allowed them to skate by and not make much of anything else they had, losing the only power they perceive they have is going to be devastating. In a country where most people are lucky enough to live to about 80, thinking that you're all dried up and useless by 35 or 40 is just fucking crazy. Only insane people think like that.

And I notice that most people don't stay in their house and never come out again when they hit the "old" stage. They actually have the guts to keep on living and acting as if they enjoy their lives instead of acting like being 35 or 40 or 45 is a horrible thing.

I thought I would be mercilessly torn apart for liking GA more than Julianne Moore, but I'm pleasantly surprised to see so much support for her.
Also, holy hell Marisa Tomei is stunning. I have her workout DVD and she is in AMAZING shape. I feel much shame at being 25 and squishier than her at 40 something. But hey, I was never gonna have a face like hers anyway.

This list was great until someone pointed out the lack of Marisa Tomei. She was so sexy in The Wrestler that I think I would have broken the cardinal rule and gone bareback with her stripper character.

As for the Gillian Anderson v. Julianne Moore debate, there's room enough for both in this house of cards (whatever that means)!

But I'd still go with Moore. She gets the nod because 1) She's still a busily working actress and 2) I've never seen her with a haircut that made me ill. GA can't say the same thing.

I think Katey Sagal is pretty hot. She's also got nerd cred (for Futurama), classic sitcom cred (for Married With Children) and gay cred (she sang backup for Bette Midler as a Harlette), and now biker cred (kinda, for Sons of Anarchy). She rocks.

Yeah, I realized that after I looked her up on IMDB. I just think she's cool (for all the reasons I mentioned). I don't really like Sons of Anarchy, but she is really good in it.

Naomi Watts is gorgeous and she's blonde and over 40. I think Diane Lane is kinda blonde too honestly. Daryl Hannah, Heather Locklear and Nicolette Sheridan too. I've always thought Kim Dickens (Joanie Stubbs in Deadwood) is gorgeous. I think there are a lot of hot women of every hair color in their 40s these days. Your 40s are the new 30s.

As a woman about to turn 40 in a matter of months, I find this whole idea that you can be sexy and in your 40s as an incredulous WOW thing kind of baffling.

I'm talking about Hollywood, which is the worst, and just our (people, not just Pajiba) general outlook on the matter, in which it goes like this: she's 45? WOW! She looks good!

Well, I mean 45 isn't 85. I have my own judgey moments, but they go the other way: I'm always sort of surprised when someone in their 40s looks much older--wrinkled, sun-damaged, bags under their eyes, etc. No one in their 40s has to look like they've been "rode hard and put up wet."

I hope I don't sound thin-skinned. I'm actually pretty damn excited to turn 40. My 30s were great and only got better every year. Because of that, I fully expect my 40s to be even better.

Diane Lane and Maria Bello are so boring and unmemorable. I'd take Edelstein and Anderson over them ANY day.
