The iPod Classic Is Dead, Long Live the iPod Classic

It’s the end of an era that you probably didn’t realize hadn’t ended yet: With little fanfare, following in the wake of their big Apple Watch announcement (it’s “everything we think a watch should be”—so it tells time? That is literally all I want of a watch), Apple pulled the iPod Classic from their online store. You know, that big brick with the clickwheel. While the rest of the world moved onto fancier devices, the Classic remained the digital music player of choice for many audiophiles, who reveled in its high storage space-to-cost ratio. Alas, that wasn’t enough to keep it from going the way of the sweet, sweet Discman before it.

I’m sending off the iPod classic the same way I introduced it into my life—with my unimpeachable music taste. U N I M P E A C H A B L E, I say. Here are the 30 best songs I ever had on my iPod before I graduated to one of those heathen touch screen devices. Feel free to post links to some of your favorite jams in the comments. Pajiba, let’s get our groove on.

RIP Classic iPod, October 2001-September 2014
