Iowa state senator Mark Chelgren (R) rose to minimal fame late last month, as he led a push in his state to purge institutions of higher learning of their overwhelmingly liberal snowflake faculty.

Chelgren’s Senate File 288 states that a “person shall not be hired as a professor or instructor member of the faculty at such an institution if the person’s political party affiliation on the date of hire would cause the percentage of faculty belonging to one political party to exceed by ten percent the percentage of faculty belonging to the other political party.”

Of course, Chelgren’s crusade against all university faculty who do not share his political views from their posts in higher learning is predicated on the belief that he, as a supposed business school graduate, is acting out of his personal experiences and critical understanding of higher learning.

Surely, having not only gone to college but having also obtained a business degree he would know what attending courses in higher learning is like these days, you know, beyond stereotypical and misleading coverage of universities on right-wing websites and news channels, right?

OK, I’m sure you can guess where this is going.

As per a scandalous NBC News report published on Wednesday, Forbco Management school, the purported institution of higher learning that Chelgren claims he obtained a business degree from, is actually just a company that ran a Sizzler franchise based in Southern California. Chelgren’s “”“business degree”“” has since been removed from his list of credits on the Iowa Senate Republicans’ website.

“This was a management course he took when he worked for Sizzler, kind of like Hamburger University at McDonald’s,” Iowa State Republicans spokesman Ed Failor told NBC News. Or, essentially, “he got a certificate” which is just a tad different from a business degree.

Apart from this stint at his local Hamburger University, Chelgren previously attended the University of California at Riverside as a physics major for a few years, but did not graduate. His dogged, anti-progressive professor fervor can hardly be understood as anything but Fox News brainwashing and all those false baby boomer stereotypes about what attending college is like, today.

Speaking out of experience, I would say that college faculty are more diverse in their world views than both right and left wing media give them credit for. I’ve had professors who never pass up an opportunity to open our minds to the role of critical race theory feminism in today’s political climate, and this semester, I have a professor who casually equated Black Lives Matter with the KKK and shrugged off Milo Yiannopoulos as merely a “conservative.”

While I can certainly cede a majority of college faculty team left, it hardly follows that college lecture halls are sites of indoctrination. We’re exposed to a variety of ideas, but as any university student could attest to, it’s not those individual right of left wing ideas that we’re really taking away, but the crucial skill of weighing different ideas, and all their facts and evidence, and coming to our own conclusions.

You can ask any graduate of higher learning about this. Or, in other words, don’t ask Children.
