This week Netflix announced it’ll premiere a whopping fifteen new original series; that’s in addition to new seasons of House of Cards, Bloodline, Orange Is the New Black, Sense8… Basically, we’ll need never leave our homes again (well, except to stock up on food and liquor, oh and maybe go to work or school). Perusing the welcome newcomers that threaten to binge our lives away, here are the most intriguing entries, including period pieces, mysterious and dystopian thrillers, and the superhero we’ve longed to discover more about.

3%

A science fiction thriller set in a future where the societal divide separates those in a world of devastation from one of progress and hope. Successfully making it through a bizarre “once in a lifetime” selection process allows 3% of the population to transfer to the “better side.” This Brazilian series is created by Pedro Aguilera (originally, a web series), executive produced by Academy Award nominated cinematographer, César Charlone (City of God, The Constant Gardener, Blindness), and stars Bianca Comparato and João Miguel.

Frontier

Jason Momoa in an action/adventure series featuring close-up hatchet fights; what more do you need to know? Set in the late 18th century during a time of violence and chaos, Frontier explores the fur trade from multiple perspectives, including Momoa’s Declan Harp, a ruthless, vengeful and charismatic trader. Also starring Fargo favorite, Zahn McClarnon, Landon Liboiron, Alun Armstrong, Allan Hawco and Zoe Boyle.

Luke Cage

Jessica Jones’ strong, silent friend and lover takes center stage; with Mike Colter as the unstoppable force we truly want to know better. Colter describes the third Netflix/Marvel series as unique in its musicality: “It defines itself through sound that you can feel when you’re watching the scenes, whether it’s something that’s actually a song that they’re playing or actually just the pulse of the music that they choose thematically. Luke Cage is going to define itself in that way, and it’s going to define itself in the locations that we’re doing.” Co-starring Alfre Woodard, Mahershala Ali, Frank Whaley, Simone Missick, Theo Rossi and Sônia Braga (as Claire Temple’s [Rosario Dawson] mother)

The Crown

Frost/Nixon, The Queen, The Last King of Scotland writer Peter Morgan’s biographical drama series about the British royal family is a no-brainer, must watch, wedding extravaganzariffic event. Starring Claire Foy as Princess Elizabeth and Matt Smith as Philip Mountbatten, the all-star cast is never ending: Jared Harris, John Lithgow, Vanessa Kirby, Harriet Walter, Greg Wise, Jeremy Northam, Michael Culkin, Alex Jennings and Andy Sanderson. Tea and crumpets not included.

The OA

The East’s (and Sound of My Voice) Brit Marling and director Zal Batmanglij reteam for a very hush-hush mystery project about which we know absolutely nothing. For that reason alone — Netflix won’t release a single detail — we are immediately obsessed.

Check here for the full list of Netflix’s new series for 2016, including Fuller House, Chelsea Handler’s Chelsea Does and Wynona Ryder and Matthew Modine’s Stranger Things.
