What's Coming To Netflix This Month? A Witch, A Devil, Some Mighty Big Mouths... And Keanu

Personally, I think October is the best month of the year. It’s that cozy nexus of scary and sweet, apple picking and pumpkin spice and jack-o’-lanterns, sweater weather and scarecrows. It’s a month that’s got something in it for everyone. But even if you’re a goddamn monster that loaths October, you’d have to agree that it’s gonna be a great month on Netflix. I mean, normally I try to pick a few key highlights that excite me, but there’s TOO MUCH GOOD STUFF to talk about. So, uh, get ready to not sleep next month!

The Unoriginals:
Before we dig into the Netflix Originals, I am obligated to point out that some pretty great movies are being added to the platform… like everyone’s favorite bit of angsty 90s teenage nostalgia, Empire Records! Great cast, great story, and obviously a bangin’ soundtrack. Also a few “classics” from the Keanu Reeves oeuvre (arguably the best and only worthwhile oeuvre, really): The Lake House, in which Keanu and Sandra Bullock flirt ACROSS TIME thanks to, like, a mail box, and The Devil’s Advocate, in which Keanu and Al Pacino flirt because Pacino is literally the Devil and Keanu is, well, Keanu.

via GIPHY

Also, if you haven’t watched The Babadook, you’ve got until October 14th to catch up on it before it leaves Netflix. FAIR WARNING.

And as for the new Netflix Original #Content…

The Return of Marvel’s Very Own Devil: Daredevil Season 3 (10/19)
Hey, have you heard? Matt Murdock’s not dead! But uh… he doesn’t seem exactly well, either, really.

The One Starring Toni Collette: Wanderlust (10/19)
A new series about a bored married couple who decides to reinvigorate their sex life by… sleeping with other people. But it stars Toni Collette and really that’s all that matters.

The One With Basically ALL The Buzz: Chilling Adventures of Sabrina (10/26)
What creator Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa did for Archie’s gang in Riverdale, he’s doing for the titular teenage half-witch here. Kiernan Shipka stars as Sabrina, and I’m starring as the person that’ll be watching this in a single sitting.

There’s Always Room For More Shirley Jackson In Your Life: The Haunting of Hill House (10/12)
Kristy already reviewed this one, and while her opinion has me extra excited, I’ll be honest — there was no question I’d be watching this one anyway. Not just because I love the source material, but because this is a re-teaming of Gerald’s Game director Mike Flanagan with star Carla Gugino.

The One With Jason Mantzoukas Playing A Raunchy Child: Big Mouth Season 2 (10/5)
Nick Kroll’s animated ode to awkward puberty boners is a deeply weird, shockingly funny little gem, with one of the best voice casts around. But did I mention the boners?

The Vampire Cartoon Based On That Video Game (That I Totally Love): Castlevania Season 2
Fewer boners than Big Mouth but it’s written by Warren Ellis, so anything is possible.

The New Weekly Show That Better Not Get F*cking Cancelled: Patriot Act with Hasan Minhaj (Streams every Sunday starting 10/28)
There’s no trailer yet, but Minhaj is someone who absolutely deserves a platform like this, and I have high hopes.

The One About Murder Or Whatever: Making A Murderer Part 2 (10/19)
Um… I think they’re still trying to figure out who did it, or something?

Robb Stark Lives!: Bodyguard (10/24)
Hannah has already given us the low down on this gripping BBC drama, starring Richard Madden and Keeley Hawes as veteran with PTSD and the politician who supported the very war he fought in. So get ready to scratch you British thriller itch!

The One Where Dan Stevens Faces Crazy Cult Leader Michael Sheen: Apostle (10/12)
Kristy says this movie finally made her forgive Dan Stevens for leaving Downton Abbey. In this he plays a man who gets mixed up in a weird cult while trying to track down his sister. But not like any weird cult. This is some murderous gonzo religious weirdness, with an extra side of gore because it’s coming from writer/director Gareth Evans (The Raid).

And here’s the complete list!
