New Under Armour Ad Stars Ballerina Misty Copeland

Athletic Apparel company Under Armour recently released a new ad for their “I WILL WHAT I WANT” campaign starring Misty Copeland. The whole campaign focuses specifically on women, with an app to create a global community of women to support and encourage each other. While this is all pretty standard as far as marketing goes, the ad is still gut-wrenching and inspiring. In it, you hear a letter detailing Misty’s faults and why she’ll never be a professional ballerina.

Of course, Copeland went on to become a world-famous dancer as a soloist with the American Ballet Theater and has performed with Prince. The letter she reads isn’t “real” in the sense that it was never an actual letter she received, but the criticisms are all things that she heard over the course of her training. Today, Misty is still too short, too muscular, and she still started her training too late. And none of it matters.
