I'm Not in Love: Lee Pace and Richard Armitage Set the Rumor Mill on Fire

By Cindy Davis | Miscellaneous | August 7, 2014 | Comments ()

After half of our favorite world traveling Twitter photo-posting pair…

outed a few of his Hobbit co-stars back in January, fans began speculating and outright fantasy dreaming up couples. And what do you know, fantasy may have stumbled upon reality. A Twitter user posted this “creeper” photo of Lee and Richard in Washington Square Park taken a few days ago:

And this ridiculous smiley-faced golf-cart photo must mean something, right?

Okay, okay…I know that *just because* they like to play golf together, or hang out on a park bench, or have dinner together with extended family, it doesn’t mean they’re a couple. After all, James Franco has a live-in boyfriend, and they’re not a couple. But we can hope, right?

And if this doesn’t make your day, nothing will. Here’s a young Pace (according to a co-star) performing Puttin’ on the Ritz. Ah-dorable.

Comments Are Welcome, Bigots and Trolls Are Not

  • Sassy Pikachu

The thought of their amazingly sexy voices together is already making this girl swoon. Rumor or not, they both have fantastic voices.

My concern is, gay or straight, that is a whole lot of handsome in a concentrated area. It could cause handsomeness shortages in other locations. What happens if they happen to wander near a handsome deprived area? Will it result in a handsome/not handsome vortex which could mean the end of us all?

I am willing to research this phenomenon but it will require more pictures of each of them, together and apart. No need to thank me, knowledge is its own reward.

  • Mrs. Julien

    I'm here to help.

  • Kala

    I thank ye, madame.

  • Berry

    You're the hero we deserve.

  • e jerry powell

They are SO GAY for each other.

I am SO GAY for everybody.

  • Mrs. Julien

    Even me?

  • e jerry powell

I am ESPECIALLY GAY for the Julien family.

  • Mrs. Julien

We're ESPECIALLY HETEROSEXUAL for the e jerry powell.

  • narfna

Sexy Dwarfbeast and Elven Sparkle King!?!?!?

  • psykins

My husband is in love with Lee Pace. Like, wants to suck his dick, even though my husband is straight (when he found out Pace is probably gay he said "So, I have a chance?")

When I told him about this rumor, he just said, "I can live with that."

  • demented

The extended family and golf-carting photos were actually during the filming on "The Hobbit." Lots of cast members hang out with each other and each other's families during those shoots---I mean, the dwarves all went rafting and clubbing. Ian McKellen, Peter Jackson and others ALSO hung out with Pace's family, and he in turn LIVED WITH Evangeline Lilly and HER family during his time there. Buuuuuut nobody suggests that Pace is having a secret affair with Lilly, because it's not what gay-fetishizing fangirls want.

Here is why the rumor is goig aroung: crazy tinhats who want something to be, and think if they spread rumors far enough and interpret every twitch or word as being a sign of a secret romance, it will be true. They did the exact same thing to Elijah Wood and Dominic Monaghan ten years ago.

And since Mr. Armitage has been on the stage in England for WEEKS, and was only in NYC for one day, their posture doesn't exactly suggest long-separated lovers, does it? Especially since they don't seem to notice that someone is photographing them. It's more "bro dudes hanging out."

  • ZbornakSyndrome

You're so right. No one ever randomly suggests that a famous man and woman are dating simply because they're photographed together.
    Nope. Never happens.

  • demented

Um, my point was that there are people who are suggesting it for way, way more made-up reasons than just photos.

  • Mrs. Julien

That's pretty much always the case.

  • Berry

    Disappointing. But I'll live.

  • Eh, let them have their fantasies. It doesn't impact reality, but it might provide amusement/distraction for someone who needs it.

  • Mrs. Julien

    You are no fun whatsoever.

  • Samantha Klein

Well, at least he learned to carry a tune eventually.

  • Mrs. Julien

If it is true, I agree with BOTH OF THEM.

[adding Armitage/Pace to the list which already includes Craig/Weisz and Vergara/Mangojello]

  • Berry

Not to be a creepy objectifying objectifier or anything, but... gnh.

Or in other (actual) words, my lions would not be try if this were true. Also, years and years ago I used to post on a Armitage/North and South fan board, and some of the members there were very, very bothered by the possibility of Richard being gay. And it's probably bad of me, but if he is, I'd be a little gleeful that they might have to face their own prejudices.

I never claimed to be the bigger person.

A few nights ago this rumor was posted on the Pajiba! Facebook page. And then I discovered the "fan art" for Thorin/Thranduil shippers. It was a little more graphic than the Serlock/Watson fan art, but mostly because of the chains.

Edit: I should add, ZbornakSyndrome may now be our resident expert on Thorin/Thranduil fan art.

  • ZbornakSyndrome

That search on Tumblr changed me and the art was... let's say educational. And this is coming from a Fannibal!

But I leave you with my favorite SFW entry:

  • emmalita

    It just makes me giggle.

  • BWeaves

OK, just Googled some of the "art." Cough cough, whoa.

Of course, Legolas and Gimli did set a precedent for elf/dwarf love, even though, technically, the Thorin/Thranduil love would have come first, so to speak.

  • Another Kate

That such a thing as Thorin/Thranduil fan art should even exist in this world both amuses and delights me.

  • demented

They ship EVERYONE even slightly attractive, it's not very surprising.

  • Berry

Me too. Stuff like that just makes me happy. I may never feel the urge to seek it out, but it's weirdly satisfying to know it's out there.
