If you follow Snoop Dogg on Instagram, you may have noticed he is extremely displeased with Gayle King and has been for around a week. In fact, he went in hard on King and her BFF Oprah Winfrey, posting images of the former with Harvey Weinstein and the latter with her “spiritual healer.”

What happened here?

In an interview with basketball star Lisa Leslie, King asked about the complicated legacy of the late Kobe Bryant. That portion of the interview was used in a clip by Gayle’s employer, CBS, and raised ire with a lot of Bryant fans.

“It’s been said that his legacy is complicated … Is it complicated for you, as a woman, as a WNBA player?” King asked. Leslie said it was not and said in all her dealings with Bryant she never knew him to be “the kind of person that would … do something to violate a woman or be aggressive in that way.”

In the part that caused backlash on Wednesday, King then replied, “But Lisa, you wouldn’t see it, though. As his friend, you wouldn’t see it.” - via Deadline and in this CBS video

It was at that point that Snoop, a longtime friend of Bryant’s as well, took to attacking King on Instagram and demanding an apology. As Snoop’s personal attacks piled up, Winfrey appeared on TODAY with Hoda and Jenna to talk about how King felt “attacked”:

“She’s not doing well, may I say she’s not doing well,” an emotional Winfrey said. “She has now death threats and has to now travel with security and she’s feeling very much attacked.”

“(She) feels that she was put in a really terrible position because that interview had already ran and in the context of the interview everyone seemed fine including Lisa Leslie and it was only because somebody at the network put up that clip,” Winfrey said. “I can see how people would obviously be very upset if you thought Gayle was just trying to press to get an answer from Lisa Leslie.”

Winfrey continued: “She hasn’t slept in two days. I think anybody can criticize anything, but the misogynist vitriol and the attacking to the point where it is dangerous to be in the streets alone, because it’s just the people attacking it’s the other people who take that message and feel like they can do whatever they want to because of it.”

Snoop responded to the news of King receiving death threats with the following:

Four days ago, King took to social media to air out her side of the story as well and I will leave you with that.
