The whole concept of celebrity as we know it needs to be ground down into dust and hoovered up by the vacuum of history. Rotten, toxic, and inextricably bound up with poisonous capitalist individualism, it’s beyond redemption. Bin it, and we’d all be better off.
That being said, until that happens, I guess we can get some funny stories out of it now and then at least? Twitter pondered this exact thing the other day, as it asked us sweaty, slobbering plebs for the stories of our best interactions with celebrities:
I once watched Keith David sing “Swing Low, Sweet Chariot” to calm down a crying baby on a crowded subway train in New York City in 1996 when he was coming home from playing the lead in August Wilson’s play “Seven Guitars.” https://t.co/8FQ2wbCDzr

michael j. fox came to speak to our high school class and someone asked him how he balanced his career and running his foundation for parkinson’s research and he grinned at us and said “it’s a little shaky” https://t.co/RcdvuuyMwE

not my fav but it's the funniest. i went to soulja boy's bday party 2yrs ago and in the middle of it he climbed on a stage (that i assume was built for this event) and made the crowd rap HIS songs to him while he watched silently over us like some sort of pretty boy swag pharoah https://t.co/SgDNgLawTE

Interviewed Benicio Del Toro, it was a really hot day in London, so I was wearing shorts. I walked in and he said "you've worn shorts, to interview me?" and I said, "it's a one-camera set-up, nobody can see me", to which he replied, 'I can'. https://t.co/D1hOCeZfSg

Back in HS I couldn’t find my house keys all week, thought it was from being foggy-headed post gum surgery. I came home and knocked on the door, Harrison Ford answered (I had never met him) and said “Hey Emma, sorry I took your house keys, how are your gums feeling?? Come in!” https://t.co/iG9CPUncXD

I’ve told this story so many times but at my first job in LA I was in the outside break area and brad pitt walked in to smoke, he was on the lot shooting ad astra, and he said "beautiful day today" and I said “yeah. so are you here interning?" as a joke, and he said "no?" https://t.co/dzXgnqfZ47

was at NYU covering a spike lee talk. afterwards he was signing books and I was like why not? when I get to him, he looks up at me from the signing table and goes, "WHAT'S YOUR NAME?" I say, "john." he says, "BIIIIIIG JOHN!" and writes "to BIG JOHN" in my book. I'm not even tall https://t.co/af13ks14jl

I asked Shaq for a picture once but I was too short to get us both in the frame so he grabbed my phone. He immediately started looking through my pictures and when he saw a screenshot of a 3 Doors Down album he said “you like 3 Doors Down… that’s cool” https://t.co/tf758mQhyO

I went to a Spike Lee signing. I was the first black person in line, and after a bunch of hellos and handshakes to all the white people in front, when I got to him he dapped me up and hit the "What's good brotha" like a real life version of the key/peele obama skit https://t.co/28JuoOf64n
