If Your Heart Doesn't Melt at the Sight of This Old Couple Then I'm Afraid There's No Hope For You

When it comes to internet content, I love short, sweet clips that spoon feed you a hint of a narrative and then leave you wanting more. Like, really wanting more. Painfully yearning for more. The same way that films like Alien leave the unmatched craftsman that is you imagination to fill in the blanks and the dark spaces, these shorter clips give you a glimpse, just a portion of the story, and then they leave you to speculate and paint outside the borders. Some clips give you the full story, and that’s great. Like remember Walter the Labrador? The angel who loves to run to the sea. That’s a wonderful clip and it tells the full story, from the starting line through all the twists and turns to a beautiful and emotionally satisfying ending, and there’s a lot to be said for that.

BUT THEN THERE’S THIS!

Like an elderly couple. from r/aww

I just can’t. How is that possible? Can you believe these two? How is so much fu**ing cuteness allowed in the world? And doesn’t your brain just immediately play a montage of all the years and years these two have shared together? All the bright mornings and dying light sunsets and the playing in the garden and eating together and falling asleep and teasing each other, all those moments accumulating day by day as their joints grow gradually slower and their temperaments mature and they become content simply to nestle against a corner together, and to contemplate the moment and to take comfort and warmth in each other’s company; happy, safe, loved. It’s just too much. I could watch a 24 hour live stream of these two going about their day if it was available, but there’s a magic to this tiny glimpse that is all its own.
