Three Trailers: Here's How Peacock Will Try to Retain Subscribers After the Olympics

The 2024 Olympics officially begin tonight with the Opening Ceremonies. Here in the U.S., there will be a lot of coverage of the games on Peacock. That will guarantee some extra eyeballs for the streaming service for a few weeks, but what will they offer subscribers to make them stick around after The Olympics? We’ve got a couple of projects they’ve used to bait the hook in this week’s trailers.

Fight Night is a limited series based on the true-crime podcast of the same name that tells the story of an armed robbery on the night of Muhammad Ali’s 1970 comeback fight. The impeccable cast (except for you, Terrance Howard) includes Kevin Hart, Samuel L. Jackson, Taraji P. Henson, Don Cheadle, and Chloe Bailey. A+ to the costume team for this one too. Whew!

Fight Night begins airing on Peacock September 5th.

Even before The Olympics are over, Peacock will begin airing its original series Mr. Throwback starring Steph Curry and Adam Pally.

Curry is at the top of the list of basketball players turned actors. And if we aren’t going to get any more episodes of his mini-golf competition show, Holey Moley, this looks like it will be a fun replacement.

Mr. Throwback begins on August 8th on Peacock.

AppleTV+ is also preparing for post-Olypmic streaming, bringing Pachinko back for Season 2 at the end of August. The cast includes Lee Min-ho, Minha Kim, Anna Sawai, Yuh-Jung Youn, Jin Ha, Eunchae Jung, Soji Arai, Junwoo Han, and Sungkyu Kim.

The first season of Pachinko was great. Based on the title sequence, the second season looks like it’s going to be a real banger.

Pachinko will premiere on AppleTV+ on August 28th.

We don’t spend a lot of time talking about animated series around here. So, for this week’s lagniappe, I want to highlight one of the animated series some of us are excited about. Batman: Caped Crusader has an amazing voice cast and begins on Prime Video on August 1st.
