Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Kyle Richards posted a selfie on Saturday to celebrate a year of sobriety.
“Today marks one year alcohol-free for me,” the caption read. “A number of things made me come to the conclusion that I didn’t want to drink. First and foremost, I didn’t feel it had a place where I personally wanted to be.”
Richards had previously opened up about her sobriety journey, saying that she didn’t have a “time frame” for it, which she reiterated in her Instagram caption.
Kyle joins fellow California housewife, Gina Kirschenheiter, who revealed on the current season of Orange County, that she’s “California sober.” Kirschenheiter told People Magazine:
“I was drinking way too much. What used to be a drink when I was out at night with friends became, especially during COVID, me pouring a drink every night without even thinking about it. And I don’t identify as an alcoholic, I don’t believe I have that disease. But I felt the scales starting to tip, and I didn’t like that feeling. I was numbing myself with it.”
Kirschenheiter had a scare earlier this week when she appeared on Watch What Happens Live. When the “shot ski siren” went off she stood between Andy Cohen and Meghan King to take a shot of Red Bull, while Cohen and King shot liquor. Cohen grimaced after taking his, saying he got the wrong shot.
After the commercial break, Cohen said, “By the way, I was all freaked out before the commercial break because I got Meghan’s tequila and she got my soju, so it was just unexpected.”
“I’m just glad no one got my Red Bull and I didn’t get either of those,” Kirschenheiter responded.
“Well, I’m also glad that no one here was sober,” Cohen added.
“Well I am!” Kirschenheiter exclaimed.
“Um, we’re having a PA meeting after the show,” a shocked Cohen said while looking sternly into the camera.
The shot ski thing is already annoying, and with more and more Bravolebrities going sober, the WWHL model might have to be reimagined.
