You remember Saved by the Bell, right? That one show where the blonde guy got away with literally everything and conned everyone all the time? A while back, NBC announced a revival for the beloved 90s sitcom for its new streaming service, Peacock — which launches in May 2020. The revival brings back Mario Lopez and Elizabeth Berkley, who play A.C. Slater and Jessie Spano, respectively, with Mark-Paul Gosselaar and Tiffany Thiessen back as Zack Morris and Kelly Kapowski, but in more minor roles. Now, the Saved by the Bell revival has cast Zack and Jessie’s sons.
Meet Mitchell Hoog’s Mac Morris, described by Variety as a “handsome, charming, privileged” teenager. As the son of Zack Morris, now the governor of California (only proving that we’re living in the end of times), he’ll likely get himself into as much trouble as his dad did for shutting down too many low-income schools. To get out of trouble, Zack sends the students from the closed schools to uppity ones like Bayside High. And honestly, while I loved Saved by the Bell growing up, even I can admit this premise sounds super f*cked up.
Then there’s Jessie’s son, Jamie Spano. He’ll be played by Belmont Cameli and is described as a football player who’s a “sensitive man-child.” Okay, I guess? It’s unclear whether this description is mocking his sensitivity or if there’s something more there, but we’ll have to wait to find out. The cast is rounded out by Haskiri Velazquez and Alycia Pascual-Pena as Daisy and Aisha, respectively.
The casting announcements don’t include any further information about the boys’ parents. Is Slater Jamie’s dad? It’s possible and fans would likely hope for that. I’d even be interested to see if Jessie and Slater ever hooked up after the series ended. Likewise with Kelly hopefully being Mac’s mom. However, while Zack and Kelly were the couple of Saved by the Bell, they probably would’ve been divorced in real life. But who knows? Mayyyybe they’re still together.
Will you be watching the Saved by the Bell revival? Will you be paying for NBC’s Peacock streaming service? Let us know! (Seriously, I’d like to know.)
