Missing Noah Wyle after 'The Pitt'? Check Out Season 3 of 'Leverage: Redemption'

Last season, Leverage: Redemption suffered from the absence of Aldis Hodge, after they sent Hardison to space to float around in a capsule for most of the episodes. It doesn’t look like we’ll see much of him in the third season, either. He’s credited with a “Special Guest Appearance” in two of the first three episodes currently available to stream. I’m willing to trade Hardison for more Cross, but I feel like Spencer (Christian Kane) needs his buddy.

Aleyse Shannon continues to do a great job as Breanna, Hardison’s little sister. She’s funny and the team’s resident anti-establishmentarian. Breanna speaks for everyone living through these “unprecedented times.” But no one will ever truly replace Hardison.

We’re getting more Noah Wyle this season, so if you’re going through The Pitt withdrawal, Leverage: Redemption might fill the Wyle-shaped hole in your heart. Sadly, though, we don’t get his Pitt facial hair. There are a few exterior scenes in the first episode where he’s rocking a trim goatee, but then it’s gone—and I was sad. While I don’t like medical dramas, I do like Dr. Robby’s whole look. Sexy, tired ER doctor is A thing. Leverage Noah Wyle is more nerdy. But he has a great wardrobe. It’s like Librarian’s Light nerd Wyle. I’m mostly OK with it. But still—keep the beard, Noah.

I’m not a fan of Wyle’s New Orleans dialect work as Harry Wilson, either, to be honest. It comes and goes, and I’m not sure if he’s only using it for specific cons or if he’s supposed to be a Southern lawyer. But none of the showrunners seem to think it’s important to maintain. It really isn’t, is it? I don’t think anyone’s writing to Prime Video to complain about the lack of verisimilitude in the Leverage Streaming Universe. If they are, I hope they start by pointing out that air ducts are never as clean or as wide as the ones Parker (Beth Riesgraf) always finds herself in.

Sophie (Gina Bellman), who has taken over as head of the team since Nate (Timothy Hutton) passed away, is the real artist with accents and dialects, while Wyle’s Harry Wilson excels at costume work and physical comedy. Which was probably a nice break for Wyle after filming an intense first season of The Pitt.

Leverage: Redemption isn’t trying to reinvent the wheel—or itself—with season three. You either enjoy the show or you don’t. And if you do, you’ll be happy to know the gang is all back together to defeat corruption and put their bad-guy skills to work for good. While it does feel a little strange to be watching a Christmas episode in April, Leverage: Redemption is one of those shows you just let wash over and through you. When it’s gone, there will be nothing. Only a vague sense of pleasant calmness will remain.

The first three episodes of Leverage: Redemption are now available to stream on Prime Video. New episodes will be released every Thursday.
