The News About Vladimir Putin And Steven Seagal Blew Amber Ruffin's Mind... And Her Segment
It’s a slow news day, so you know what that means: Let’s watch Amber Ruffin be the goddamn BEST!
Ruffin returned for another round of her very special news recap segment “Amber Says What” on Late Night with Seth Meyers, and BOY did she have a lot of questions saved up! She was like “Whaaaat?” about everything from Nike’s Kaepernick ad (“It was such a kick in the nuts to racists, THEY’RE gonna have to take a knee!”) to Aretha Franklin’s funeral (Faith Hill and Faith Evans: not the same!), to the drama around Serena Williams’s catsuit (“Quoi?”) and her supposed “meltdown” (“When you’re a white man, your whole career can be about tantrums, but when you’re a black woman that same behavior will cost you dearly”).
But it was the news that Vladimir Putin had appointed action star/casting couch creep Steven Seagal as the Russian Ministry’s special representative that truly shook her — and turned “Amber Says What” into an exciting new segment called “Amber Says Why.” What followed is a truly impressive series of questions that still only manages to scratch the surface of the absurdity.
“Why do you? Why did you? Why do you do what you do?” We’re wondering too, Amber. 2018 is breaking us all.
