The prospect of a Friends reunion is something that always bubbles to the surface whenever one of the main cast is back in the headlines. We’ve gotten a semi-reunion in the past thanks to NBC’s tribute to prolific television director James Burrows in 2016. Still, with all of the reboots, revivals, forced returns, contractual obligations, and Satanic ceremonies happening with our favorite classic television series, the desire to bring back Friends is high on plenty of lists.
One person who seems interested, at least for today, is Jennifer Aniston. While she’s had plenty of appearances in Hollywood, including a few good appearances here and there, most of the coverage of her life is focused on her numerous relationships. Why isn’t exactly clear, but you can’t blame her for wanting to jump back into the role that made her a household name. She could easily return to Leprechaun for a firm conclusion to the horror franchise, but Friends would also be a good choice. In an interview that will appear in September’s InStyle magazine, Aniston talks about bringing back Friends and reveals the idea has been kicked around with some of the cast according to Deadline:
“Before that show ended, people were asking if we were coming back. Courteney (Cox) and Lisa (Kudrow) and I talk about it,” said Aniston.
She added, “I fantasize about it. It really was the greatest job I ever had. I don’t know what it would look like today, but you never know. So many shows are being successfully rebooted.”
The one cast member who doesn’t seem keen on doing it? Matt LeBlanc. But Aniston says she hopes she and the others could talk him into some sort of reunion. And even if that doesn’t work, she’s got a backup plan:
“Or we just give it some time and then Lisa, Courteney, and I could reboot The Golden Girls and spend our last years together on wicker furniture,”
Can you really blame LeBlanc for not wanting to return as Joey again? He’s kept very busy since then and already had his attempt to continue on with the character with the failed Joey spin-off. I vote for the Golden Girls spin-off anyway. Lisa Kudrow can play two characters, bring back Janice, and invite the others on as guest stars. In fact, just remake all shows with characters from other shows. Would love to see Alf as Sam on Cheers or Hannibal as Jerry’s wacky neighbor on Seinfeld.
