To be totally fair to Dustin, until recently I also had no idea what Ari Shapiro (seen here hosting the excellent new season of The Mole on Netflix) looked like, but it did lead this week’s podcast to begin with a brief detour into talking about NPR voice (and Ari Shapiro, of course)!
Once we got into the rest of the show, we managed to keep up with our recent weekly watches (Twin Peaks: The Return, Fantasmas, The Acolyte), as well as the new Amazon show My Lady Jane, which Tori was very excited to pitch to the rest of us!
Somehow, we all are also on board with House of the Dragon, even though I still don’t know everything that happened in season one and get a lot of names mixed up. But you know, dragons!
Also, despite having last week off for American Holiday Explosion 2024, we are weirdly not yet talking (much) about The Bear, mostly because two of us are behind. We’ll get there, don’t worry.
Finally, in nonsense that I want to bring up for no particular reason: Games Done Quick just had a fundraiser stream, where video game speedrunners complete games in what seem like impossible times for charity. But this year’s star was Peanut Butter the Shiba Inu, who played the SNES classic Ken Griffey Jr. Presents Major League Baseball, and whose run ended in epic fashion (the whole run is fun if you want to watch a dog play a video game for 30 minutes, but the clip below is cued up to right before the thrilling conclusion):
