Children of the 1980s rejoice, our Prince Adam has arrived. Yesterday’s teaser proved Amazon/MGM Studios understood the assignment for bringing back one of our most beloved cartoon heroes.

And today’s full trailer is delightfully silly. It feels like it pays proper homage to not only the original He-Man and the Masters of the Universe cartoon. But also to everything we hold sacred about the fantasy/action films of that era. I fully appreciate that they kept him in the loincloth, I’m not going to lie. And just look at Battle Cat. That big, green tiger is beautiful.

This was a movie that was supposed to get made back in 2020 with Noah Centineo (The Recruit) as the star. The Covid-19 pandemic killed that version, and now we’re getting this one instead. I think we made out pretty well in this deal.

Nicholas Galitzine (Bottoms) stars as Prince Adam/He-Man, sent to Earth as a young boy to escape danger on his home planet, Eternia. He must be reunited with his sword so he can find his way home and defend it from the evil forces of Skeletor (Jared Leto).

Morena Baccarin has been perfectly cast as The Sorceress, Idris Elba is Man-At-Arms (come on now!) And Alison Brie is playing Evil-Lyn, which also feels like a homerun. Look, I know it’s going to be dumb. But it’s going to be great dumb. The kind of dumb we talk about for generations.

Masters of The Universe opens in theaters on June 5th.

And for all of you who are too young to have enjoyed this cartoon. Perhaps you recognize He-Man from this video that went viral 15 years ago. FIFTEEN YEARS AGO!
