Just when we thought the debate over the best movie President was settled, here comes John Cena throwing his hat in the ring with Prime Video’s Heads of State. Oh, it also stars Idris Elba as the Prime Minister of England. I don’t know if anyone around here is into him, though.
I want to watch them fight each other with saplings.
The rest of the cast is strong, too. Not strong strong. But, you know, talented strong. It includes Jack Quaid (Novocaine), Carla Gugino, Paddy Considine (Mobland), Priyanka Chopra (Citadel), and Stephen Root (Office Space).
Heads of State will begin streaming on Prime Video on July 2nd.
The Toxic Avenger (Toxie to his friends) premiered at Fantastic Fest in 2023. Despite a cast that includes fan favorites Peter Dinklage, Elijah Wood, and Kevin Bacon, it has taken this long for the movie to get a trailer and a release date. Let us rejoice because this is a great trailer, and The Toxic Avenger looks like it’s going to be a very good time.
Written and directed by Macon Blair (I Don’t Feel at Home in This World Anymore) The Toxic Avenger also stars Taylour Paige (Zola), Jacob Tremblay (Good Boys), and Jane Levy (Evil Dead) in this remake of Lloyd Kaufman’s cult classic.
The Toxic Avenger opens in theaters on August 29th.
I’m still not over Blink Twice and Channing Tatum’s portrayal of a disturbingly evil cult leader. I’m hoping Roofman can wash all of that out of my mind because I would like to enjoy Charming Potato again, please.
Roofman is based on a wild true story that absolutely deserves a movie. It also stars Kirsten Dunst, LaKeith Stanfield, Juno Temple, Peter Dinklage, Tony Revolori, Uzo Aduba, Molly Price, Emory Cohen, and Ben Mendelsohn.
Roofman opens in theaters on October 10th.
Usually, I reserve the strange, unusual, odd, or otherwise left-of-center trailers for lagniappe. This week I’m going super duper extra mainstream because, despite the cast, A Big Bold Beautiful Journey looks terrible. It’s the worst kind of emotionally manipulative schmaltz, but it stars Margot Robbie and Colin Farrell, so I’m conflicted.
