It’s called Glossy: Ambition, Beauty, and the Inside Story of Emily Weiss’s Glossier and it’s ready for its close-up. Amazon MGM Studios has acquired the rights to the tell-all by journalist Marisa Meltzer, which was a New York Times bestseller immediately after its release in September. It’s a deep dive into the rapid growth of the beauty brand Glossier and the brand’s tech-mogul-wannabe founder and former CEO, Emily Weiss. “The Devil Wears Prada for the Bad Blood generation,” publisher Simon & Schuster calls it.
The Hollywood Reporter says multiple sources have confirmed Lindsey Anderson Beer of Pet Sematary and her production company LAB Brew “are attached to produce what’s expected to be an ongoing series at the streaming service, should it move forward.”
There’s no news of a showrunner being attached to Glossy yet, but Beer will most likely write and direct it. I have not seen Pet Sematary or any of the other titles on Beer’s IMDb, but I still love this choice. As a recovering Glossier Girl (I still have a couple of Balm Dotcoms kicking around but am otherwise clean) I listened to the Glossy audiobook as if my life depended on it. A few times while listening, I caught myself holding my breath. It’s not so much a takedown of the brand itself but of Weiss, who comes off as an out-of-touch, spoiled rich girl. It’s a historical record of the end of the Girl Boss Era, a horror story if I’ve ever heard of one. I’m picturing Inventing Anna meets The Hills meets Scream Queens, and boy am I ready.
All I wanna know is, who will play Emily Weiss?
