2015 was the year that Supernatural happened to me. I don't know who proposed it, either myself or my roommate at the time, but somehow it was decided that we'd give this little spooky sounding show a try. What followed was an opportunistic binge-fest that occurred night after night as we plowed through what was, at that point, ten years' worth of episodes. Though I never finished the series, which ran to an impressive fifteen seasons--327 episodes total, a marvel that feels akin to the construction of the pyramids in this day and age--I've always appreciated the close-knit relationship between stars Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki that's gone on well after the show's completion back in 2020.

A few days ago at Columbus Con, Ackles and Padalecki shared the stage to talk about all things Supernatural. During the event, Padalecki decided to share a story told to him from the perspective of a former veterinarian assistant about Ackles, his dog, and a very confused veterinarian office:

One time [Ackles] wanted to pick up his dog...we [the vet clinic] were closed so he left a message, and then the next day...we saw the dog was gone when we all got back in, and we watched the footage, and he climbed over the fence to get his dog and then got the dog over the fence somehow...

Padalecki goes on to convey how the employees were (understandably) alarmed upon first realizing a dog in their charge had gone missing, before he turned to Ackles if he could confirm the former employee's accounting of events. To his credit, Ackles was appropriately embarrassed about the shenanigans and told his side:

Yeah, I needed my dog back, and they were closed. And I went there not knowing they were closed, and I could hear him barking in the back...I was with my brother-in-law, and I was like, "We're going in." And I scaled the fence, hopped over into the yard, went into the kennels.

Once inside (undoubtedly prompting the office to reevaluate the security measures they had in place at the time), Ackles proceeded to search for his dog.

I'm looking, I'm looking, I'm looking..."Hey, there you are, pal. We're gonna get you out of here." I busted him out...and I had to kind of throw the dog up to Gino who was standing over the fence and he's like, "I got him, I got him, I got him, let's go!" and then I scaled back over the fence, we hopped into the car, and never heard a word, like they never called me to say that my dog was missing...surely they just saw the video and they were like, "Bold!"

I can't say I blame Ackles much on this one. If I'd gone to pick up my dog and gotten there after closing, I, too, would've considered a little B&E just to spare myself the effort of making a return trip. Of course I don't advocate for people to abscond with their pets from the vet's no matter how much they might want them. But the heart wants what the heart wants, which might mean springing your four-legged friend out of lock up. Besides, if you can hear your dog from inside of a building, that means your dog can definitely hear you outside of said building. Don't commit crimes, folks, but if you're gonna do it, it's hard to think of a better reason.
