Adam Brody visited with Hoda Kotb and Jenna Bush-Hager on Today to promote his new Netflix series, Nobody Wants This, and then ended up talking about his marriage with Leighton Meester. These two former teen stars hardly ever publicly discuss their relationship. Finally one of them made something buzzy enough that we can get some deets! Thank you, Kristen Bell!

We already know Brody thinks very highly of his wife, whom he lovingly refers to as “a poet” and “an outsider,” but what’s the secret to their decade-long marriage?

“Oh, pick someone good,” Brody says. “Be lucky, and be in love with someone who’s great, and then just kind of listen to them.” How…enlightening? He explained his theory further:

“If you’re with someone great, you’re on third base. Not that it doesn’t take sacrifice and humility and you have to grow together and you have to be willing to grow, because you’re not going to be able to stay 100 percent right where you are. But if you’re with someone wonderful, I think you’re on third base.”

I don’t know much (anything) about baseball, but I think he’s saying that if you start with the foundation of a good person, you’re halfway home, as it were? Or, in this case, one base away from home? Sounds easy enough, but I doubt Adam Brody ever had to weed through the chaff of dating apps. We regular people have to write articles about celebrities gushing about their wives and hope our boyfriends read them so they know how to act…ahem.
