Sacha Baron Cohen Should Apparently Wrap It Up After Being Recognized By This SoCal Gun Shop Owner

Everybody is attempting to jump ahead of the new series by Sacha Baron Cohen. The show has been the source of some complaints by the likes of Sarah Palin and Roy Moore ahead of its premiere on Sunday, but even more people had to admit they were fooled by the comedian’s new characters after Who Is America? aired on Showtime.

But leave it fake outrage and local news content to show just how ridiculous it is that anybody has been fooled by Baron Cohen at this point. As this story from Fox 11 in Los Angeles shows, it should be very difficult for the Ali G and Borat star to go undercover at all. Norris Sweidan of Warrior One Guns & Ammo sniffed him out almost immediately according to his account of the scene being filmed at his store (Via Deadline):

“He comes in, off the bat you can see in the video I’m looking like, this guy does not look like a Hungarian immigrant, tight ass leather pants, a beard, it just didn’t fit,” Sweidan said. “The moment his words came out of his mouth I was like this guy is full of s***.”

From there, his reaction seems to be what you’d expect to see from almost anybody in the same situation:

“I’m looking at the producer and I’m just like am I being fooled right here?” Sweidan said. “And I just kept looking at the guy and I was like ‘you’re Borat’, as soon as I said that his eyes just looked at me like, and he did a turn right out the door.”

He then went on to shout “MY WIFE, MY WIFE!” as Baron Cohen left the store, screaming into the distance as the crew drove alone to leave him alone with his weapons and the personalities he assigned to them during his quieter moments.

You might be thinking, “Oh this guy got him good! This is going to sink Baron Cohen.” You also might be thinking this is all bullshit. I’m right there with ya, but the point here is that the owner of a gun store in Riverside, California was able to spot the comedian through his getup on his own. All these people appearing on his Showtime series did not. Neither did their handlers or the many people they should have around them to help avoid this sort of thing.

There is no reason to be fooled by someone as famous as Sacha Baron Cohen these days, even in thick makeup. If anything, this story shows that Who Is America? will work and will provide comedic results that are funny for different reasons than Ali G or Borat. It is a ridiculous time in America — and around the globe — and it should also make you pretty scared that most of these folks are deciding the future.

A random gun owner can pick out the Borat guy, but Dick Cheney gleefully signs a waterboarding kit. He’s still evil, but maybe he’s just as stupid as the rest of them.
