Singers. Songwriters. Canadians. Twins. Lesbians. Kweens.
In case you don’t know the celebrated indie pop duo Tegan and Sara, those are the broad strokes. And now, please enjoy their catchy and autobiographical new track, “Boyfriend.”
Bonus: It includes a Mae Whitman cameo. Yeah, her.
Regarding “Boyfriend”s inspiration, Sara has explained, “I was getting into [a relationship] with a girl who had never dated a girl before. She had a guy that she was sort of seeing, and we used to joke around that she was treating me like her boyfriend, and I was trying to get her to tie it down. I wanted her to make it official with me. We’ve all been in that situation where we really like someone and we want to make it official, and they’re not ready.”
Yes. Yes we have.
Bonus Fun Fact: Girl Interrupted’s Clea Duvall helmed the vid. Previously, she’s directed the TV special Tegan and Sara’s Heartthrob: The Interviews. And this summer will see her feature directorial debut The Intervention, which stars herself, Cobie Smulders, Melanie Lynskey, Natasha Lyonne and Alia Shawkat. So…field trip?
Kristy Puchko has only been listening to this and “Lemonade” all week. She formally apologizes to Hamilton’s cast album.
