Taylor Swift released Speak Now (Taylor’s Version), the third in her series of rereleased albums, on July 7th to instant number 1 on the charts status. This becomes Swift’s 12th No. 1 album, officially beating Barbra Streisand for the title of “most chart-toppers by a woman” according to The New York Times.

The sales of Speak Now, so far, have topped even her other rereleases, Red and Fearless. She’s released six studio albums in three years and has had a number 1 in each of the last five: Lover in 2019, Folklore and Evermore in 2020, Fearless (Taylor’s Version) and Red (Taylor’s Version) in 2021, Midnights in 2022 and Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) in 2023.

The fervor over Speak Now and the Eras Tour has pushed the rest of Swift’s catalog back onto the charts. Three other albums are in the Top 10 of the Billboard 200 album chart this week: Midnights at number 5, Lover at number 7, and Folklore at number 10, making her “the first living act to have four albums in the top 10 since Herb Alpert in 1966,” the Times reports. If you know who Herb Alpert is, good for you, but also, you’re lying.

The whole rerelease venture started as an attempt by Swift to “reclaim and control” her work after her record label was sold and after a messy public feud with executives there. “Messy public feud” is hugely minimizing what went on between Swift and Scooter Braun specifically, but we’ve all heard enough about that already. Basically, Scooter sucks.

Ever the savvy businesswoman, the new albums have taken on a life of their own, reintroducing Swift’s earlier music to her older fans who came of age screaming the lyrics of “All Too Well” out the windows of the Mazda 5 they inherited from their mother (ahem…), and giving younger ones an opportunity to discover her for the first time.

Like her or not, she’s winning.
