Blumehouse is at it again, this time remaking Stephen King’s classic Firestarter. The original 1984 film starred 10-year-old Drew Barrymore as Charlie McGee, who was on the run from the mysterious government entity known as “The Shop” with her dad as they attempted to keep her pyrokinetic powers under control.

It looks like they’re hewing close to that story for this new version, which is directed by Keith Thomas from a screenplay by Scott Teems who penned Halloween Kills (Uh oh.)

Zac Efron stars as Andy McGee, Fear the Walking Dead’s Sydney Lemon plays his wife, with Ryan Kiera Armstrong as Charlie, the Firestarter. Armstrong did a nice job being super creepy and evil on American Horror Story: Double Feature. I hope she can bring the same level of sympathetic sweetness to the role of Charlie that Drew Barrymore gave us.

The movie also features Rutherford Falls’’ Michael Greyeyes. He better be playing John Rainbird. That would be a huge step up from George C. Scott and his ridiculous ponytail. Kurtwood Smith, Gloria Reuben, and John Beasley are also featured. John Carpenter did the score! Bonus.

Firestarter will be in theaters & streaming exclusively on Peacock starting May 13.
