Lisa Frankenstein, written by Diablo Cody and directed by Zelda Williams, might be the most perfect Pajiban Valentine’s Day movie ever. And the trailer is seasonally appropriate for Halloween.

It stars Kathryn Newton (Freaky) and Cole Sprouse, and it’s set in a Winona Rider fever dream of 1989. I love it so much I want to roll around in a pile of crunchy fall leaves with it.

Lisa Frankenstein will premiere in theaters on February 14th, 2024.

Hammer Films is famous for iconic horror movies like The Mummy and Dracula, both starring Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee, along with a whole host of films that AMC likes to package for Halloween. Today, the company’s latest film, Doctor Jekyll, premieres in theaters across the UK.

Doctor Jekyll stars Suzy Eddie Izzard in the title role, Scott Chambers (Malevolent), Lindsay Duncan (Birdman), Simon Callow, Jonathan Hyde (The Strain), Morgan Watkins (Kingsman: The Secret Service), and Robyn Cara.

This looks like great fun. Someone go watch it and report back to the rest of us.

Defending Your Life put Albert Brooks on my radar in 1991 and he’s been there ever since. For good reason. He’s truly an understated comic genius and I’m very excited for this HBO documentary about his career, directed by Rob Reiner. I might also want to roll around in a pile of crunchy, fall, leaves with it. And I feel like Albert would approve.

I think it really says something when David Letterman would want to trade careers with you.
Albert Brooks: Defending My Life premieres on HBO and MAX on November 11th.

For this week’s Lagniappe, I have a true story for you. When I was in high school, I had a boyfriend my mom really liked. He needed parenting, and my mom is very good at adopting those kinds of people. After we broke up, I couldn’t get rid of him because she kept inviting him to things. So, while I have absolutely no interest in Freevee’s Exmas, I feel for Robbie Amell’s character here. Just a little bit.

It’s, like, a step above the Hallmark holiday movies. Maybe a half step. Your mileage may vary.
